Question on Trackers.

If your vehicle is stolen and recovered undamaged so the insurance dont need to pay out, do you still loose your NCB?

You had a theft so surely they would like to rank your theft risk higher, but strictly speaking you havent actually made a claim.

Anyone know?

Depends on the insurance company.

Your insurance premiums will increase regardless of the NCB issue.

That's what I expected tbh.

Begs the question are Trackers worthwhile? You get your vehicle back but with increased premiums.

May as well get paid out and have increased premiums.

Only person who seems to benefit from you shelling out on a tracker and then paying an annual subscription is the insurance company. The owner gets increased premiums whatever happens but then insurance benefit from not having to pay out on a total loss.

Or have I missed something ?

Also I think prevention is better than cure.. beef up your security in terms of locks, cameras, alarms, deterrents...

Agree on security first Cav I was just asking specifically on the benefit of a Tracker in case anyone had first hand experience.

Premiums are lower with a tracker.

A recovered bike will cost you a lot less in insurance than an unrecovered bike as premium increases are based on Insurers total outlay for a claim.

A recovered bike will usually be declared for 2 years when renewing. An unrecovered bike is a claim to be declared for (on average) 5 years.

Trackers help catch bike thieve's.

It's peace of mind, the app is easy to use

It's also peace of mind for my wife, she can check to see where I am if I'm late home.

I easy to find if I crash on my own.

I've got two so I'm a fan. I suspect if someone is looking at it just from a money perspective then they'll not want one. People have been arguing various bike security isn't worth it since bike security was invented.

Spoke to my insurance company and also did a comparethemarket quote and no discount offered for a tracker.

If there's no outlay then it's usually 2 years as it's just classed as an incident. For others it's no even declarable as no one else can make a claim.

The usual rules are claims in the last 5/6 years and incidents in the last 2/3 years are declared.

Unfortunately it's up to each insurance company to decide their own rules.

I told my insurance company about my accident on the Versys. The broker said it's declarable as it's a claim even without an outlay. New broker same insurer and they didn't give a shit. Aviva the insurer had already approved my no claims bonus before the broker had sent me the paperwork asking for proof of NCB.

What you guys paying as a subscription? Out of interest is it reasonable?

The BMW Connected App looks like it will tell me where my vehicle is currently parked and where it's been, so maybe that is a very basic Tracker

Trackers can have rider down feature. When it detects an accident it can call your emergency number and advise them where you are. It also has low battery warning and movement alerts. These may be enough for you to avoid the theft heppening in the first place.
They can also record all your journeys so if you find a nice route you can save it for later, or even share it. It can show where you are in relation to your bike, so you can find it when it's parked in a field of thousand say at a bike race. It can do rough mpg and fuel costs for each journey.

However I agree they are pricey. Normally around 300 per tracker and about a tenner a month sub, or 100to120 per year

All cars and many bikes are tracked permanently and without the owners knowledge these days anyway.

We've had this discussion before and I'm usually dimissed/told I'm worng, so I'm staying out of it.

Any car with an airbag will store the data of the speed of the vehicle when the airbag went off.
