Flip front helmets - Anyone had one?

There are some nice helmets outside the boring Schuberth stuff these days. Quite tempted by one at the right price.

X-Lite X-1004 looks nice and can be used with the chin piece up.

Or the AGV Sports Modular.

I have just got an Xlite 803 Duke and probably best helmet I've owned to be fair. Great fit, light and plenty of air flow.

Saying that the AGV one looks better 8)

I'll have a look at the NEC and see what deals there are. The X-lite is tempting if it fits. It can be used with the chin bar open.

The Xlite is a better fit than the Shoei GT Air.

Dont know if it was the same for you Duke but the GT Air gave me pressure points on my forehead after about 2 to 3 hours on my head and tbh the HJC was the same.

I've ridden all day long in the Xlite with no discomfort. Very underrated helmet.

The only flip front I had was the Roof, many years ago, it was comfy.

How do they perform in the crash test results Duke?

X-Lite gets 4 stars on the Sharp test. they also test how many times the flip opens during testing. The X-Lite didn't open once.

AGV also gets 4 stars but must have opened at least once as it only gets 97% in the 'opening' test.

Not alot in it. Guess it depends in which one fits you best.

Not a real fan of the flip front helmets but the X-Lite in my opinion looks good

Went to Motocentral in Hinckley to try some flip fronts on..

Tried the AGV SportModular, HJC Rhpa 90, Nolan N100-5, X Lite 1004 and the Shoei Neotec 2.

Has to be said that the Shoei was head and shoulders above the others in terms of quality, it feels like a proper helmet whereas the other don't.

Didn't buy but they do price match so going to have a look round and get a price then go back and buy from them. Their service was very good. Member of staff knew his stuff and put me under no pressure to buy there and then.

I've bought from Motocentral before and they were a good company to deal with.

Any reason why you specifically want a flip as obviously some other good helmets out there too.

To try something different really. On longer rides it would be good to get some air and have a drink without removing the helmet. I'm more than happy with my AGV for short blasts out.

Some of them can be used with the chin bar raised, its not something nething I would do normally but sometimes in town or heavy traffic it would be a useful addition. In summer time I would quite like to commute a few days a week when possible .

Just got one of these - HJC RPHA 90- pretty impressed to be fair for the price (£200). I looked at Schuberth and Shoei, but this came out tops for fit (for me).

I tried the HJC on but could feel it nipping on my temples within 30 seconds of putting it on. Its a lot of helmet for the money if it fits right.

Yeah, fit is always key. I’ve never been able to get a shoei and other premium lids to fit, so was impressed with the value for money with this. It’s surprisingly light as well for a flip lid.
