Seems the death of Carlin Dunne has seen the end of bikes at Pikes Peak.

That's a massive shame. I doubt any of the riders who lost their lives there would want this.

Tragic that people lost their lives and I mean no disrespect but fatal accidents can happen anywhere at anytime. Banning motorcycles is the wrong knee jerk decision in my mind.
Better to improve safety, run off, amrco in key locations, mandatory air bag suits, more paramedics at more locations etc....

I strongly suspect that the massive increase in insurance to cover the event is the main reason to cancel it.

Yeah never thought of that. I wonder how much TT insurance costs then?

Sponsorship issues as well i would guess.
No company wants to be affiliated to events when deaths are involved. Its bad publicity.

It's a shame, but at the same time it's very much a fringe event. Reading the article, it seems that bikes have been not much more than an on/off (no pun intended) sideshow to a race that already only has very limited & specific appeal at the best of times.
Give it a few years, and if it's missed that much, I reckon they'll have bikes back up there if there's demand.....electric bikes do very well up there, it seems.

The TT is as close to a guaranteed death as you can get in motorsport yet they have no issues with sponsorship

Yes, but the TT is a bike-specific event....the PPIHC is a car event that was sort of turned into a run-what-you-brung race...cars, bikes, quads, etc.
They take away the bikes & the race will still continue, perhaps even grow bigger as more slots open up for cars. The TT....not so much.
