Everything Photography

I realise this will possibly be a thread consisting of myself and Frankie but hopefully others will include themselves. Essentially this is everything Photography
I recently bought my girlfriend a Nikon D3400 DSLR camera for her birthday and we've literally fallen in love with photography. I even emitted, out loud, a profanity yesterday evening as I travelled home from the gym that the camera wasn't in the car. Driving over a bridge the sunset was perfectly centered, in line with the road markings and hovering over the crest of the bridge. The clear sky was a beautiful burned orange fading to purple at the horizon. The shot could have been perfect.
One of our more successful shots to date is attached for your viewing pleasure

Cracking pic mate, but....
But what really impresses me is.:
How on earth did you manage to get your mucky-pup to sit still on that stump long enough to take the pic.???

One of my favourites, taken in Saigon on a Nikon compact.

Haha thanks. We got about 15 photos on the first attempt. He needed help sitting on it in the first place but stayed there for a solid 30 seconds I reckon. Our friend, who's dog this is, was stood just out of frame with some food which helped.
That's pretty damn nice, Monty! Looks awesome with the smoke too

I used to do a heap of photography, especially a lot of sunrises when I did shift work at the refinery and travelling home as the sun was coming up. It was my escape in the dying years of my marriage. Photography & instagram is how I actually met Jess, but we both have let it slip in the last couple of years we have been seeing each other apart from iPhone snapping.
But I have a few favourites
Absolute favourite of my kids, even though you can’t actually see them. It’s looking out over a valley about 10 mins from my house. Taken with the iPhone and edited slightly
This one was my first crack at a long exposure on my Nikon bridging camera (P520) no ND filter as it’s quite dark in between the walls of the waterfall and was only a 8 sec exposure. This is in the bottom of the valley the kids are looking over in the previous pic
This ones another sunset at the lookout over the same valley but with a different vantage. I really like doing silhouette shots. I’ve printed this one on a 1 x1.5 metre canvas and is on my wall in my lounge
And finally a shot over the local river in heavy fog one morning. These conditions only lasted about two mins as the sun started to rise then it all burnt off and looked quite different. Not an ounce of editing, this is how it came off the camera.
If anyone is on instagram, feel free to follow @kiwi_klicker I’m private but if I recognise the name I’ll add, only follow people I actually know these days as I haven’t the time for millions of pics in my feed.

Ross, you can get some fairly good shots with camera phones these days. You need to be outside though, they're still fairly sh!t indoors.
These were taken on an iPhone

You don't watch Bob's Burgers? What's wrong with you?
The little girl in Bob's Burgers wears a pink bunny ears hat.

HA! I see what you did there.
It's probably the best feature they've brought to a camera phone. If you look very closely though, you can see where the algorithm gets it wrong around some of the edges. Never going to be a pro feature, but great for me.

As they say, the best camera is the one you have on you, and the phone cameras are very capable in day to day use.
As it happens I actually got my Nikon out on the tripod to get some moon shots tonight. On full zoom (x42) you get a full frame moon and clearly see the details of the craters etc.
Not tonight’s one but same camera

If you have the time, it sounds to me like you should both take it up again..
Cracking shots by the way! I had a go at long exposure without an ND filter but it was definitely too bright and the water not fast enough for the acceptable shutter speed for the conditions

There in lies the problem Cav, time. As a single parent now I have bugger all spare time. Once a break (so every two months) we get a kid free weekend and that usually entails jumping on the bike and getting away! But this thread has encouraged me to try to get the good camera out more. We have a weekend away this weekend so might just take it with me!
It does HD video recording too... tripod, hotel room... mmmm ...
