I've noticed a copper coloured dust on my rear wheel, could this come from the new pads (SBS Sintered) or is it time to panic and start stripping the rear down ???

Not sure Nutz. I have always used sintered pads but never had copper brake dust ? but can't think where else its come form unless perhaps some of the gold anodising of the chain or rear sprocket.

Same here only ever had black dust from sintered pads. I use SBS as well.

Both the chain and rear sprocket are gold. But they've both been on for a while which is what got me thinking.

I know a track day is harder on a bike, but that much harder?

Check the wheel bearings. I don't think wheel bearings are gold coloured but i know engine bearings are.

Aren't your cans capped with gold too?

Same as above, only ever had black dust off sintered pads (or organic for that matter). However as I've only checked the front for dust, it may be peculiar to the front, but the back brake normally works at a lower average temperature so may well produce a lower temp un-discoloured brake dust.

Just in case it isn't brake dust, I'd try taking the weight off the back end and just give everything a push and pull just to make sure nothing is amiss. Unless you already have of course.

The pads I used last on the evo gave off orange dust, if it was more sinister I'm sure you would hear / feel it as if some thing is grinding to create dust it would be rubbing

Maybe it's the leftover magic fairy dust that stopped you from taking out that Dude at Donny

Just to follow up on this. It looks like the gold dust has come from the rear sprocket. Odd as its been on there for over 9 months and hasn't lost any coating before.

Guess the track adds quite a bit of extra stress to these parts.
