New HADECS Speed cameras. Rear facing too...

A new type of speed camera recently went live after receiving Home Office approval.

The Redflex HADECS is a gantry mounted digital speed camera that is being deployed on our motorways where variable speed limits are operated. A single camera is able to monitor up-to five active lanes of traffic including those sections of motorway where a hard shoulder can also be used as a live lane.

Dual radars are used to measure speed and data is transmitted digitally. These rear facing cameras are far more discrete than we are used to, looking more like a CCTV installation than a traditional speed camera.

We've already had reports that these cameras, installed between junctions 5 and 6 on the M25 are now flashing away and capturing hundreds of motorists unaware.

Be careful out there peeps. One camera can cover up to five lanes so I'd expect them to rollout out quickly as they are much more cost effective! Not declared or painted yellow either... (wasntme)

From what i read elsewhere they will be on all the variable limits around Birmingham too. :(

I'm a good boy on the variable limit sections of the motorway. The change in speed will activate the cameras so I always watch my speed. I've seen a few cameras going off so I know they work.

So if the average speeds are forced down by punitive fines on regular users and the accident rate doesn't drop correspondingly, what then?

Surely not an admission that bad driving was the cause for most accidents all along?

No I thought not. |(

I can never understand how the UK populace can get so worked up about things that don't really matter yet something like this which impinges on every road users freedom and no one gives a monkey's.

It doesn't though, does it? It's making sure you stick to the limits. You can't kick up a fuss because you want to break the speed limits.

Every step in this direction is one more step to our speeds being monitored all the time from the vehicle. No cameras you will just get a speeding fine through the post.

All the techonology is there to do it cheaply and easily now, its only a matter of time if we let every new control on our personal space and movement, in without a murmur.

We're already tracked on a constant basis. Your new cars and phones do all of that.

Did you also know that the fixed penalty fines office has access to your passport records and photo?
