Dropped back on the weight used and switched to doing 5 reps slow then holding for 10 seconds. Doing that for 3 sets. It seems to tire your muscles pretty quickly.

Just been to a yoga class. Believe me its nothing like you would imagine.
To be able to do what the teacher does, you have to be very strong and flexible, especially in core muscles. She reckons six months down the line i should be able to do most of the exercises she can do. I reckon more core strength will be very useful riding the bike.
She is no looker but feck does she have a fit body.

I did yoga 2 times a week for over a year, and agree you have to be quite strong. I would really like to get back into classes. I still do a bit on my own, especially stretches for running.duke63 wrote:Just been to a yoga class. Believe me its nothing like you would imagine.

What style are you doing? I did Iyengar (pronounced "eye-yen-gar") It was very precise and concentrated on proper technique and alignment over degree of stretching. I learnt a lot about how to hold my body and have suffered far less from my lower back pain since doing it.
Also it's good mentally, breathing exercises for a start. But also the concentration it takes to hold a well postured 5 minute headstand usually clears my head of any crap.

Re: The new improved fitness thread
Well after being on a diet since new year and doing as much exercise as I can I have now lost 14lbs. The blood pressure has come down a bit as well so things are going in the right direction .

Deadlifts and squats yesterday.
The gym has got some new rubber weights. They feel weird to use. Very quiet, which is the point of them.

I had an hour so went to the gym and did arms and shoulders. Got some leg stretches in and spent about 10 mins on the kick bag.

Was supposed to be going out for a long run this morning, but we has friends over list night and I really couldn't be arsed.
Going to have to beef up the Monday recovery run with a few extra miles.

Re: The new improved fitness thread
After spending all of last week doing uni assignments I tried to get back into the swing of things at the gym yesterday - it did not go well.
I did a 10 minute jog followed by 10 minutes of HIIT pyramids. After that I went onto the cross-trainer and did 4 minutes before I nearly passed out.
So I tried doing chest... didn't happen. Odd thing is, my pull ups were the best I've done in a while with very strict form and a strong hold at the top for most reps.
Lets try again this evening

Re: The new improved fitness thread
I was never certain I did it right and no one in the gym I used to use (including the instructors) looked right doing it either. Needless to say I had no faith in them and believe I did the right thing in not doing it. I had/have scoliosis in my spine so one leg is a little longer and I'm all a bit twisted so I want to make sure I do it right if I do it.
There's one particular instructor at my new gym that I would ask for advice though - similar body shape and structure as me except he's a few inches taller and has more muscle mass. I might ask tonight if he's in there and not training

That's fair enough. No point picking up big weights if you're going to do more harm than good.
