It's also very foggy this morning. Had to play the, now where is that corner game at times as couldn't see more than 100 yards down the road.

In my twenty’s on my RZ250R I watched my chain fly threw the air and land in front of me (no chain guard) and was stranded for the night because one of these failed. That was a cold horrid night till the morning where I hitchhiked to the closet town to get a replacement.Cav wrote: Split link

Couldn’t agree more with you Kiwi. That said, a few of us of a certain age will recall having a new split link attached to their bike jacket zip, it served both as a “get you out of jail card” and something frozen fingers could get hold more easily come the winter.

Chain riveting is easy enough. I did it on the RC8 and it was fine and that put a lot of torque through its chain.
Split link. Nope.

Took the thermal lining out of the jacket, put aside the commuter and let the biker in me out to play. The satnav was programmed for a country lane route all the way home. Bloody good fun.
Also ordered a new lid which should be ready fur collection next week. That's pretty much the last of the car money gone.

Re: What did you do to your bike today ??
Yesterday spent the day cleaning up my brake calipers and changing over the pads. Now running SBS RS Fronts and EBC HH Reads. Hoping I can feel the difference now. Gotta bed them.in carefully for the first 100-200 miles.
Also whilst the caliper was off I checked the new replacement pistons for leaks - all prefect. Impressed with my repair now.

Re: What did you do to your bike today ??
Update on the oil - I checked it. I dont think the oil has gone up but is slightly overfilled (not by much but it is overfilled) where I filled up the oil theres a slight incline and also seems to make a difference when it's on the paddock stands and not on paddock stands.
When it's not on paddock stands it's at Top of viewing glass with a very very slight air bubble at the top, when it's on paddock stand it's normal to where I filled it...my only guess is the 2 paddock stands aren't the same manufacturer and maybe the bike is at an angle or something!!
I'll be changing the oil anyway before my stag do and I'll be more aware of this situation so next time I'll just fill it up on flat level ground without paddock stands and ask for help to hold it upright - or go to the garage and ask them to do a oil change - but you never know what goes on in the garage (over torque the bolt or reuse the old gasket etc) I know I'm fussy!!

Don't check the oil when it's on the side stand. Paddock stand is the correct method.

No defo not on side stand - it shows nothing in the pan when on side stand so at least I know its not that much oil - I could imagine some people doing that though. I used the paddock stands (front and rear) so should be ok for now. I'll get it changes anyway before june

Took the opportunity to wash the goretex jacket, it's amazing how dirty things get commuting.
I've also got a sample of some wash in waterproofing stuff, so I'm going to give that a try.

Don't. It stops the item being breathable. Despite what it says on the packet.
Goretex should be washed then dried using a good high temp. Put it on a radiator or stick it in the tumble dryer

Is this true, I thought Gore-Tex was supppse to be air dried in standard room conditionsKwacky wrote:Don't. It stops the item being breathable. Despite what it says on the packet.

It's just been through a standard delicate wash, so nothing more then. The high temps will be whatever nature provides for today, unlikely the radiators will be on and the tumble dryer broke.
Cheers for the heads up mate.

Re: What did you do to your bike today ??
I bought some of that Nikwax waterproofing to treat an insulated nylon one piece I use at work in the winter, I shouldn’t have bothered it was next to useless. I know the hiking community swears by Nikwax, but given my experience I should have put the money toward a new one piece.

I'm having a really lazy day today but will get the bike out later and give it a wash and wax.

Upright on level ground is what you need Rossgo. Refer to the manual if you need further advice.Kwacky wrote:Don't check the oil when it's on the side stand. Paddock stand is the correct method.
I crouch at the side and pull the bike on to my knee until it's upright and then hold it there nice and steady and tilt my head to see the sight glass. Nice and easy and if I did loose my grip and the bike slips, it will simply fall away from me on to its side stand as I've only pulled it off it's stand by a few inches.
