Polishing f**king shoes.
I'm off to RIAT tomorrow for the long weekend, I'll be controlling entry to the VIP area and consequently I'll be dressed up in my No. 1 uniform...
Anyhoo, my shoes have been sitting in various places throughout the house for the last 2 years gathering dust and having precisely no polish applied to them.
In hindsight I guess I should have started polishing them far earlier than a week ago.

You've never polished your shoes?
You should be kicked out for that.

I've got two pairs.Kwacky wrote:You've never polished your shoes?

One for everyday use (No. 2), one for ceremonial stuff (No. 1). I only need to briefly polish my No. 2s two or three times a month, they're actually my old No. 1s and with a healthy build of polish on them, they're good to go.
My No. 1s however...
I got a new pair about 2 years ago, but at the time had no need for them to be used.
And since then, when I have needed them I've just put a few layers on my No. 2s and got away with it.
But now, at such a high profile public event and with my No. 2s about to die (they're looking pretty tired), I've had to bite the bullet.
I don't mind polishing shoes, but after a week of it I've had enough!

Re: What are you doing today ??
I remember weeks of spit polishing Itchy. And new shoes are a nightmare, takes so long to get that base layer to them.
I actually used to enjoy spit polishing, my method was light layers and just breathing on the polish for the moisture.
Also nothing worse than doing all that work then having someone stand on your foot and scratching it 5 mins after you put them on!

Sounds like you need to "delegate" that task to a grunt.?Itchy wrote:I've got two pairs.Kwacky wrote:You've never polished your shoes?

Wading through countless emails. I couldn't be arsed to log on when I was out of the office. I'm paying for it now.

Re: What are you doing today ??
Well, today I've managed to hit a VIP in the face.
I've been saluting a lot this morning, a lot of high-ranking officers from around the world are visiting. But the entry point is also the exit point, and when people are going out at the same time as a group of foreign officers are coming in and I have to bang one up...
Pow! Right in the kisser!
So that's going well for me.
I'm also waiting for someone to pick up the fact that I forgot to shave this morning.
Aren't I just the picture of professionalism?
