Inflation is also about to run riot

Client yesterday told of a mezz flooring job they quoted at beginning of January at £21k. The job was put on hold because of the new lockdown.

They were asked to reqoute yesterday. It now works out at £28k.

What's caused the increase? Materials.

Cost of steel especially has gone through the roof. Timber also.

The cost of steel isn’t the only issue either, there is a supply problem too. They are inundated with work but cannot get the materials in quick enough.

It’s because there is so much Government money being chucked into the economy.

Seems like taking back control of your borders is a bit tricky. You know all those pesky rules we made so we can continue to trade with Europe, as they're not working so well shall we just ignore them?

I agree, but aren't these rules the result of 4 years negotiation? One side cannot just choose to change them out the other side has the right to refuse to allow any imports.

Let's be fair, we don't need to prod Europe much at the moment for them to look to punish us.

What the UK chooses to do with imports is the UK's choice, but we have no control over anything once goods leave the UK to be imported into the EU.

However WTO rules state that any goods imported with special trade tariffs have to be applied to all imported goods from the whole World, we cannot pick and choose which.

Northern ireland is an exception though as its part of the agreement. That's my underatnding of it all but it is a complete and utter shambolic mess.

It took 4 years to agree something that doesn't work.

Best one that I have seen so far! Many people voted for brexit to get rid of all the Europeans who come to the UK, well that has happened. It seems now that the country has some room left so what do the government do? They invite hundreds of thousands of Chinese people in and offer to pay to get them to the UK. They are not even a similar culture to the indigenous British!

Just look at the way it's treated the Gurkhas in the past or locals in Iraq and Afghan who have helped our armed forces. They've all been dumped on.

As have our entire armed forces , we expect them to lay down their lives in our defence yet the vast majority are on little more than minimum wage and the support for those that return from conflicts injured physically or otherwise damaged is next to non existent . The majority of the support services are now contracted out to the cheapest bidder and the quality has deteriorated markedly , yet these companies take millions from the public coffers for providing the basic minimum that they can get away with at best . I cannot blame the the current administration for all the problems but it would appear that they are going to do nothing to alleviate any of the problems either .
