Let's just hope his megalomania doesn't stretch to him wanting to become the most famous person in history by being the one to press the button.
If it wasn't for our own shambolic showing at the moment, he would making the USA the laughing stock of the world with the stuff that's been going on.

Depends on how you look at it , their economy appears to be in better shape since he took over the reins and seeing as GDP is seen as the measure for how well a country is doing he would appear to be doing a fine job . I don't like that success is always viewed through the lens of finance .StMarks wrote: If it wasn't for our own shambolic showing at the moment, he would making the USA the laughing stock of the world with the stuff that's been going on.

If China pulls the financial plug, they would not have the means to do it.D41 wrote:Trump wants a war on his resume'
Trump is increasing debt in times of decent GDP, that is a big no-no and will only lead to disaster once the economy turns downwards.

Re: World Politics Stuff (not brexit)
I don't think "Trump pressing the button" is a realistic scenario. Against whom & under what conditions??
Truman is not particularly remembered favorably for his presidency EXCEPT for his decision to press the button, which had exactly the desired effect of bringing WWII to a close. After that it was all pretty much downhill for him until '52-'53-ish.

The bomb was built to end the war. That wasn't pressing the button.

It's a different kettle of fish when your potential opponent also has nuclear weapons , Truman didn't have that to worry about and from what I can gather did exactly what he was advised to do by the military . I cannot see that any rational person would initiate a nuclear exchange .

No....but the world changed forever with his decision....."the other end of the spectrum" was where I was going with that.Kwacky wrote:The bomb was built to end the war. That wasn't pressing the button.
Fun fact......Harry S Truman's middle initial isn't an abbreviation for anything. As Truman pointed out, if there's a "." after the S then his name has been misspelled.

Re: World Politics Stuff (not brexit)

As I said the other say, Trump is borrowing billions in the good times. If Labour make that suggestion in the UK they are pilloried saying borrowing has to be repaid and it's an archaic idea. You can't say Trump is right yet Labour are wrong as it's the same idea.

I see Change UK didn't last very long. 6 MPs have quit the party.

I'm guessing they didn't get the mass exodus of MPs they were expecting.

There have been a spate of attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. The US is blaming Iran.

Sounds like a CIA operation for the US, to push up the $ price of oil on the world market whilst also demonising Iran. Win win.Kwacky wrote:There have been a spate of attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. The US is blaming Iran.
