Re: The next prime minister
Brexit party seem to be taking votes from the Tories, so its highly likely the two parties together will not have anymore MPs than the Tories do now.
If last night's by election is anything to go by, they may have less.
Boris took on the role as he just wants his name down on the list of those who were PM for the UK. I don't believe he has any great plan.
I see the Govts own report to HMRC states its likely there will be food shortages with a No Deal Brexit.
As to HMRC, they are already on their knees and have zero chance of coping with extra work caused by No Deal. They can't cope with what they have now.

Re: The next prime minister
I certainly agree that he has always cherished the post, and that has been a primary motivator in his political career. Nonetheless I wish I could be as certain as you, that there have not been a lot of consideration about the tactics that will be employed to ensure the break up of The Union.duke63 wrote:....Boris took on the role as he just wants his name down on the list of those who were PM for the UK. Re: The next prime minister
He was talking about legislation to try and stop the break up of the UK the other day.
Can't imagine that will go down well in Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Another certain vote loser.

Re: The next prime minister
I wouldn't read to much into last nights actual voting numbers, a lot of tactical voting going on. Plus Plaid and the Greens didn't stand. It's flip-flopped between the Tories and LibDems since the 70s
Still, I welcome one less Tory bastard in the house.

Re: The next prime minister
Tories lost another seat last night. Their working majority is just a single seat now. Tactical voting worked in two ways: it got the Tories out and it proved that the Brexit Party will cost the Tories seats.
All it'll take is a defection or two and they're sunk.

One more loss and he won't get anything through Parliament at all, let alone Brexit.

"a bad night for Labour, whose vote share dropped by 12.4% as it was beaten into fourth place"
Perhaps we can read into..... That Corbyn's tactic of constantly simply calling for an election so that he can have a stab at the position he wants, and putting that desire ahead of openly adopting a stance that is in the best interests of the future of the country, is not going to work.?
Not committing himself to the morally correct position, purely so that he does not loose his Labour voters who are in favour of leaving the EU,,,, politics.!

I'm not even going to bother challenging that. You're wrong and I'll never be able to change your mind.StMarks wrote:Monty wrote:I wouldn't read to much into last nights actual voting numbers.....

What else is there to go by?? Idle speculation from the "I-Didn't-Like-The-Results-Club"...?
The numbers are the ONLY things to go by.

Re: The next prime minister
Looking at the figures the total number of voters who actually voted is down by approx 10,000 (25% - ish ) on the last couple of elections , I think this is an example of how disenfranchised people feel about our current political state .

Re: The next prime minister
Someone needs to send the PM to Whaley Bridge quickly before the dam gives way.
Preferably about a minute before.

Re: The next prime minister
So, Dominic & Jacob can clearly see that the Tory party are in a mess because of the situation.
It appears to me that they are indeed playing the long game;
Boris is out and about, playing to the audience to leave a positive image in peoples minds.
He is also announcing spending plans & policies that can only be seen favourably.
Imho they have no expectation to win the next election.
They are simply ensuring that their successors are comprehensively set up to fail.
All they have to do is continue with these unachievable promises, and ensure that the mandated Brexit does indeed proceed on 31st Oct.
If the ensuing economic environment causes problems (which remainers seem convinced will be the case) the then incumbent political party will be blamed for every failure. By the time another election is called, the tory party will have been in opposition for some time, loudly criticising every failure. They will return to power on the strength of their opponent's failure, and the return to their numbers by those who defected to the Brexit party (as leaving will have eliminated that party's mandate).
If the ensuing environment actually turns out to be positive (yes, I know. However there are those who adamantly believe ), then the tory party will always be able to point out that they were the party to deliver on their democratic mandate. (and again they will have those returned Brexit party voters).
Win win. All they have to do is loose (oh, and ensure that we do too).
Meanwhile Corbyn doesn't care about brexit, he just wants his Labour government in power.
Perfect P Patsy.?

Re: The next prime minister
And if the Tories do win the next election then they can blame the EU for Brexit if it doesn't work.
