Re: WTF?
You've got a great point. The US/Mexico border causes all kinds of issues....drug trafficking, illegal immigration, etc.....and the US Govt. is putting up a border wall to strengthen the safeguards already in place.
The US/Canada border is undefended for the most part, and no-one gives a fcuk about that at all.

I know a fair few Canadians that wouldn't agree with thatD41 wrote:The US/Canada border is undefended for the most part, and no-one gives a fcuk about that at all.

Re: WTF?
Dissolving borders would lead to massive loss of life , the elite would have to be eradicated and all those that support them and all the Nationalists and everyone who did not agree would all need to be removed from society in order to stop dissent and uprisings , much like what happened when Russia became the USSR . I don't think killing millions of people in a social experiment that has already been conducted (USSR ) is a very productive solution to anything .
You need to consider what a border IS and what it is used for , would you be willing to leave all your doors unlocked all the time and remove the fence from around your garden ? I would be very surprised if the answer was yes .

Back to Fireball's OP subject, Carl Sagen did an interesting (imo) lecture on the subject of religions & the plausibility of the existence of God/GodsMonty wrote:I'm with Carl

You don’t have to eradicate the elite. Just take their money from them and they are just like you and me.Jack wrote:Dissolving borders would lead to massive loss of life , the elite would have to be eradicated and all those that support them and all the Nationalists and everyone who did not agree would all need to be removed from society in order to stop dissent and uprisings , much like what happened when Russia became the USSR . It’s the fact that they are not taxed as they should be that makes them what they are.

Do you think it is moral to arbitrarily strip someone of their assets by force ?
Even if we stripped everyone in the world of all their assets and redistributed it all equally how long do you think it would take for the strong to prey on the weak , how long before clever people with clever ideas amassed enough to exert their will over the masses ?

Re: WTF?
Contraception is reasonably reliable but it has to be used. Easy to say use it, but it doesn’t always work out that way when you are young and full of hormones, drink or otherwise impaired. So if an unwanted pregnancy occurs due to a night of mis-management you feel that shouldn’t be allowed the right to terminate? Instead force the upbringing of a child with a young single parent?Jack wrote:
I don't believe there is any excuse for abortion these days except in extreme medical cases , contraception is very reliable
Or other situations, young underage girl gets raped and becomes pregnant? I know someone personally this happened to, she aborted with a heavy heart and still recognises their (was twins) due date Birthday. That choice should be taken from her?
Those aren’t extreme medical cases but in my view still valid reasons for the choice of termination.
Happiness is not a destination. It is a way of life.

Re: WTF?
There is now the morning after pill , for those drunken mishaps and it is effective for up 72 hrs after the event . Rape is not consensual and therefore I agree contraception is not an option in these cases and abortion would be an option if the morning after pill was not an option. Abortion is horrific , the foetus has its skull crushed and is dismembered inside the womb then all the bits are vacuumed out into a container . I cannot condone that apart from in exceptional situations .

Re: WTF?
Don’t have to forcibly take wealth away. I was reading recently that a massive proportion of wealth is inherited rather than self earned so there is the answer. Make it impossible to leave large amounts to next of kin without paying tax on it.

Re: WTF?
So if you've worked hard to set your kids up for life you should be prevented from passing that money on?
I realise that a very small percentage of the population own a massive chunk the world's cash/wealth, but I don't think there's much we can do about that.
What we do need to do is make sure that everyone pays their fair share of tax. Tax evasion and tax avoidance are two issues that have to be addressed.
