Went for a run today, worst run in ages. I really struggled to get the pace over a 6min/km, even with that lower pace my legs where really aching. I think the toll of the last few weeks training is starting to hit.
Make sure you don't try to push through that Jon. thats what I did and the archillies injury followed. If your legs are sore get some good stretching in and do some stationary bike training or something low impact till they feel better. I learnt the hard way.
Cheers mate. I'm taking 2 days off exercise of any kind. The training schedule has been pretty tough.

I plan to run with the club tomorrow and then cross train on Friday. I always stretch well after a run, but I'll probably have a really good session with the foam roller on Friday. Now is not the time to pick up an injury.

Well, the time off was taken and tonight was club night... Now that was fun..

Decided to do hills again, which started the same as a fortnight ago. Then it got a little more fun.. We where paired up for a game of cat and mouse, basically up hill sprints with the cats job to catch the mouse. We had 6 runs of 150 meters, the guy I was partnered with only came close to catching me once but I never manage to catch him up. I saw sub 4 min/km on the watch (shocked)

My legs feel much better today :)

Not so much fitness but losing weight, after seeing the scales after Christmas (shocked) I needed to lose some weight, so with some willpower and eating low calorie stuff i've lost about 9-10 lbs at the minute, but going for at least another stone so a while to go.
Problem being my knee is playing up at the minute and Im waiting for results of x-rays, so just some light cycling in the garage on one of those bike treadmill things is all I can manage, certainly not up to any jogging etc.

Out for a quick run round the village tonight before it got dark, 4k in 22 mins. Pretty happy with that, it puts my average pace at 8:50 a mile 8)

Took to the lanes tonight for a run, 5k in 26 mins 8:38 minute mile (muscle)

Planning a longer cross country run for Thursday evening, hopefully with the guy I'm working with as he's really fit and planning on a full marathon in the next couple of months.

Here's me on my first proper ride in months... as cycling support crew for a K2 racing the Waterside B canoe race. They did it in 3hrs07... came about 20th place...

Only this boat is special....

The crew is made up of two senior men... but one of the men is disabled and can't walk without crutches.

This race was training for the Devises to Westminster canoe race. Sam and Nigel are aiming to complete this straight through - that's 127 miles over approximately 24hrs non-stop... and I'm in training to cycle along side them, leap frogging with another cyclist and a car support, to provide food, water, clothing and crutches at every portage.

I've never felt so proud to be a part of something in all my life.

They aren't doing this for charity, just to stick two fingers up to any doubters and prove that yes they can do it!

Now it's time for me to get my act in gear and cycle, run and generally train my ass off so that I don't let this team down!!! Any words of support, advice or those wanting to watch us in action please do drop me a message :)

Leg day today, then some time on the punchbag to toughen up my hands.

Hit the gym this afternoon.

It was only my second weights session of the year. I've done 2 circuits and one chest day all year, so today I decided to punish myself with various different exercises.

The lack of any proper workouts for two months, coupled with my weakness since the shoulder dislocation incident left me struggling.

Struggling with 4 sets of 10 at 60kg on bench press.

Shaking like a jelly on a washing machine doing 3 sets of dips.

20kg one-armed rows weren't exactly comfortable.

At least my squat form was impeccable.
But only squatting 40kg you'd bloody well hope so!

Despite the lost strength though, despite the lack of muscular endurance, despite the twinge when i tried to do some shrugs, i walked away from the gym feeling great.

It was so good to get back in there and feel my body working again, come next week I've got some early morning sessions planned.

Bring on the pain!

I love the post work out burn you get... it's like your body saying 'that one was good'

I just don't like it when I'm in so much pain post work out I can't walk down stairs or sit down - surely these things should be easier than going upstairs or standing up!! Bloody cycling.

I once did a leg session on a Monday. I was still limping on the Friday.
Think that was a bit much.

Taekwondo on a Monday. I've decided I've got hamstrings like steel cables. They're strong but there's no give in them. I'm not very flexible.

Legs and arms. My old PT told me to try a new way of working legs on the press. Use a lighter weight than normal, then do 5x4 reps, holding the rep at each end for 5 seconds.

Talk about a burn. Ouch.

Decent run tonight, 8.5km off road.. Wouldn't have been a bad run if the early pace hadn't been way too fast.

A good one for the leg press is to start with your normal heavy weight and do a couple of sets of 10-12 reps, then drop the weight down a little and increase the reps. Keep doing this until you are lifting virtually no weight at all but the pure number of reps will leave your legs dead...

Forcing myself to walk past the Blade parked outside and cycle to and from work. It's adding an hour of cardio workout to every day... But it isn't easy... serious willpower required!

My leg strength has been going up but I don't seem to be gaining any size. The work out my PT told me about is supposed to help with that. I'll see how it goes.

I brought my runners with me to NZ. All keen to go running a few mornings while here

What a fool idea that was :)

The gym was one of the circles of hell last night.

It was full of wankers in posing vests, sitting around, chatting to their mates or taking selfies. Free weights all over the place, the Smith machine being used by someone doing dumbbell presses, the squat rack taken up by 3 blocks posing in the mirror whilst chatting. One bloke spent 20 minutes sat on a loaded barbell chatting to his mates.

I was in there for about 30 minutes, which included my 10 minute warm up.
