+1, fwiw the Pipe Werx one suits the style of the bike best from my perspective.
However I do recall someone fitting an aftermarket can that was shorter, and consequently dumped the hot exhaust fumes onto the luggage (where the previous silencer had not been an issue)

Pipeworx for me, looks nice.

I get paid tomorrow so will make my choice then, something to think about on my lunch tonight.

The bike is up and running with just a couple of bits to attend to and she will be good to go for the year.
High beam aim is too high, easy fix but I have to remove a cockpit panel to get at the adjuster.
Oil Filter is subject to a recall, they can unscrew themselves above 12500 RPM... The XR doesn't rev that high but still, it's a free replacement so I will call the dealer tomorrow.
The Chinese copy indicators are "Visible-ish, they are not very bright though" according to my friends so I have bought some much smaller and pricier ones, Motogadget MO.Blaze pin. A single 3W LED with a reflector lens looks to be brighter and being so small they will not snap off in a drop


And the exhaust hasn't even shipped yet, This bike will never be "Finished" but after todays ride it will be around for a while

The XR is a cracking bike too, proper sports bike hunter that can tour in comfort with the best of them.

Today I received a couple of parcels, got the ridiculously bright indicators with a single 3W led, tiny M3 bolt's and a new dashboard casing as mine is cracked, I found that when I washed it and China delivered surprisingly fast.

Looks like a tinkering session this weekend.

Okay so the bolt is in the mirror and the Motogadget Blaze indicators are on... WOW!!!

Okay I have had the exhaust on for a couple of rides and love it, actually quieter than standard and a touch deeper while still allowing the popcorn crackles out in Dynamic Pro




On today's ride I spotted one of the front inner pads is worn wedge shaped, so there's a sticking piston in the right calliper at the bottom. I already have a set of EBC HH pads in for that as I was going to change them over winter but they were OEM BMW pads and still less than half worn so I left them alone.
Then when I got home and was chaining the back wheel I spotted the tyre is about done with the base layer of rubber showing.


Sooo That's some tinkering for before work tomorrow and a nasty surprise for the credit card. Tyres are not getting cheaper, for same again with the Dunlop RS4 £345

tyre prices are ridiculous. I need some new ones on the SX. Thankfully they've got some life left in them because I'm skint until next pay day.

I thought I had some life left in this one, it's not down to any of the tread depth marker's and was fine before I set off.

They still make Metzler Z8's I remember those being great tyres, I even did track days on them when I had the Street Triple.

I'm getting my prices from BikeTyresLeeds website and they include fitting and balancing to loose wheels.

I've got Z8s on the SX. They're a great all year all round tyre and certainly value for money.

Today's my only available day to get these fitted this week so after a phone call they only had the Roadtec 01SE and Roadsmart4 in stock out of my choices, so I went with the Roadtec's I had the early non SE version on the MT-10 and was happy with them in all weathers so the sportier version should be okay on the XR.

I'm finding some bits which raise an eyebrow, the bike was serviced 2k miles ago which was the EVERYTHING service and cost over £1K, so sticking pistons in 2/3 brake calipers was unexpected, and the forks are different lengths. The bike rides fine, they're dead level in the yolks and I can't detect any bent tubes using a straight edge so that's a head scratcher. It made the front spindle fun to remove.

Off to get the rubber changed then will get it all back together and ready, just waiting for some rear pads as the inner pad has 1/3 the pad remaining compared to the outer, it's ok for now but is on the To-Do list.

Although the pads I have in stock are for a S1000xr they have a retaining pin at each end, the Brembo calipers on my bike have one in the middle
So they're for the MK2 with the BMW/Hayes calipers.

Ah well, pistons have been freed up and the front wheel is back on, I will finish the job on Wednesday when the new front and rear pads arrive, then a wash/polish and it's tyre scrubbing time.

Today was a trip up to the lakes, 260 miles and the tyres were the final piece of the puzzle, I had a mental thing going on where I didn't fully trust the tyres which were on the bike when the accident happened. Changing them has really helped and the Metzeler's are great tyres.

At the end of my first ride on them I'm just nibbling the very edges, more lean than I did on the last tyres after 1200 miles.


The brakes are great too, not as grabby as the Brembo pads but absolutely no lack of stopping power, I like it better this way.
