CycleScheme Certificate applied for - I'm settled on this:
https://www.evanscycles.com/pinnacle-la ... e-EV342346
It isn't a good looking bike but it's a bargain bike for Shimano 105 Groupset (minus the chainring). Threaded BB, which after Perks pointed out he prefers them, I did some searching and realised this comes highly recommended!.
Okay so a lot of components are heavy or non-aero but for a first timer it's still going to be awesome. The most important thing for me is smooth gearing as it is a pet-peeve of mine from my dodgy old MTB. I've got that box ticked with 105.
Now I just have to wait for the certificate to come through to raise the order
Then it's time to don the lycra and became a w@nker like the rest of them

Fair enough although I was thinking more about the wheels.. those effects will likely be felt at lower speeds.
Haha.. even so, in my current state I'm not a looker
Having said THAT I did lose 8.5lbs this week on the first week of my diet. I aim to keep this going til Christmas and hopefully lost 3 of the 4 stone I need to lose. Cycling will certainly help (if I get the bike in 202 which may be a task in itself).

Exercise & diet is all it is.
That bike doesn't look bad at all...it's clean-looking, and it's black....the Lance Armstrong crowd tend towards more garish colours.
You're not going to feel any drag from the wheels. Especially not if you're carrying around a few dozen soon-to-be-lost pounds. Aero wheels at best can drop your time over a given distance, but it's not something you can actually feel, unless if maybe you were running a rear disc (and getting blown around).
