Re: One hot Saturday
I’ve read a similar dialogue somewhere too. I’m over the debate, it is what it is and we have to deal with the now, but I’d really f**king like the planet to work towards better health.
It won’t happen with the 1%ers ruling the place but I can’t see there reign being sustainable and I hope they fold before the planet does

We already have a Canadian DC10 water bomber here and some kiwi and Canadian firefightersBlade wrote:Kiwi is there any foreign aid/ support being offered?
Specialist equipment like fire fighting planes would be very useful.

Trouble is, it's the 99% causing most of the damage simply by breathing and needing to eat. The 1% won't change but the population of the 99% will and that would solve a lot of the planet's problems - overpopulation.

Would be good if the US chipped in. Dont they have quite a few water bombers over in California?kiwikrasher wrote:We already have a Canadian DC10 water bomber here and some kiwi and Canadian firefightersBlade wrote:Kiwi is there any foreign aid/ support being offered?

Re: One hot Saturday
The US has made a number of planes available on 24-hour notice, it seems.
So far, the Aus. Govt. has not asked for them to be despatched.
Canada too, apparently.

Re: One hot Saturday
Oooops! I might have misread the site I was looking at (The Independent).....they say 24-hour notice...I'm guessing to get the ball rolling, and then a week to get them to Australia.
Reading between the lines it seems to be a money issue ....the Aus. Govt. appears a bit reluctant, or even unable, to pay for the planes useage.
End of the day they're not chipping in for petrol money....

Just watched the BBC news. Australian Prime Minister was shown on a walk round effected areas and the public were out spoken in stating they didnt think he was doing enough to help.

Re: One hot Saturday
We do have some level of international help here already, not sure of how the billing is done. But I’ve had more than once the Canadian DC10 fly Over my place about 500Ft and dump retardant only a km away to I enhance containment lines.

Re: One hot Saturday
Watching the news and listening to your reports Kiwi seems next Saturday is going to be a challenge. Would be good if more international support came in to help. I believe a state of emergency in NSW is about to be called according to BBC news.

I've no idea but it would appear so.Blade wrote:

Apparently a bunch of countries have made "broad commitments" to spend at least 0.7% of their GNP on foreign aid.....the UK, Denmark, & a few others routinely exceed this figure.
The U.S., while not part of this arrangement, doesn't spend anything like that amount/portion (0.2%) while at the same time spends more money than anyone else.....@ $40 billion per year.
On foreigners.
While I'm still skint. Schmucks.

A woman has died shortly after getting off a plane in Canberra. The cause of death is believed to be respiratory distress but they're waiting for that to be confirmed.

Re: One hot Saturday
The air quality here in Sydney is equal to smoking 45 cigarettes on the bad days.
Just been reported we have a bunch of kiwi fire fighters coming over in the next few days.
Yup Saturday is 45 deg C at mine and north easterlies to north westerlies which is going to push down the fire north of us.
Talking to a friend in the RFS and that fire front is about to move into Bush thy hadn’t been burnt for over 40 years.
Bring on the f**king rain

Re: One hot Saturday
You can't generate rainstorms if there is no moisture in the atmosphere.
Just watching the latest news reel and it sounds like Australia is going to have to totally readjust its way of life.
They are the second biggest CO2 producers per capita behind Saudi Arabia and yet i heard one of their politicians just whining that they are a small country in terms of population size so their CO2 emission makes little difference. And their PM is so far up his own arse, its frightening. He was lucky one of those locals didn't stick the nut on him with his arrogance. He walked round almost with a smirk on his face.
Whilst everyone takes that attitude the world is doomed.
