Even if it can be repaired, would you want to keep it? It would always be in my head, and I would questions every slight wobble the bike made.

I know it sounds strange but I would ride a crashed bike on circuit but I wouldn't want to on the road - but that's just me (strange)

Isn't that because most track bikes have been crashed anyway?

It wasn't a conscious thought to be honest but possibly a factor. I just feel like you will know if something is wrong with a bike on circuit so then you can limp back to the pits and fix it. On the road it isn't that easy to judge and you may find out where there isn't 100m of run off

There's a totally different mentality going on there......how many times have you watched a racer drop/crash his bike & then rush to get back on it & go?? That's something that you will rarely, if ever, see out on the roads.

I'm late here Kwacky I hope now after a couple of days you haven't got any aches or pains rising. Hope you are ok.
Cookie sorry to hear about your bike. Kwacky is a hooligan sorry for us sending over an English hooligan, we assumed he was on a watch list like footy hooligans? Clearly nothing got picked up our end prob still celebrating the cricket and I think the French boarder control were all down the swimming pool wearing their speedos at the time
On a serious note really hope everything is ok and also insurance is dealing with it. Doesn't seem like your year with guests Cookie

I can't express how completely wonderful and supportive Leigh and Jane have been.
It's utterly gutting and heartbreaking to bin someone else's bike. They put their trust in you and you don't bring it back. The only saving grace for me is that it was just one of those things. I wasn't being a dick or trying my luck. I'll post some photos of the scene tomorrow so you can all get a better idea of what happened.
If the hgv hadn't been there the bike would have had a few scrapes and I would on eBay looking for replacements
If the bike hadn't dropped as quickly as it had and ditched me I would have joined the bike into the path of the lorry.
So thanks again to Leigh and Jane. Your support means everything to me.

Its what good mates should do. Not easy for you when it's someone else's property, but it was a proper accident that i think all of us would have had as it was just a combination of road circumstances and a crappy road condition. Its only metal and plastic (lots of plastic

)
I'm glad it was you and not me
But i'm glad your ok

As mentioned glad you didn't hit the Lorry. I can tell you from first hand experience (no pun intended) that the flipping hurt!!

By way of an update - there is not much of one!
It's August, so not very much gets done in France. I've left a few messages with the insurance agent dealing with the repair or writeoff for the bike and no reply yet - i'll push next week as it's starting to annoy.
The bike is at a Honda Dealer, so it's in good hands, but until we know whether it's a cheque or bike that returns, we have not done much to get a replacement sadly - we are a bit stuck.
With the value of the £ at the moment, it's proving more expensive to live here, so we are less inclined to spend money, so test rides in September October and buy one next year once the pound recovers i suspect - a shame for Jane but she will have to use mine for now if she feels the urge.
C'est la vie.

By way of an update, it's likely they will write it off.
They have asked for some evidence on condition and mileage etc, which i will supply to them, so then we wait again and see what numbers they come up with.
Cost to repair? 11,000 Euros!

11000 euros that's getting written off for sure.
Hope the pay out is good and you can enjoy the new bike shopping.

Do you get the option to buy it back with French insurance? Would make a great track bike.
