Re: 2014 Kawasaki Z1000SX ongoing review
Where do you drill the metal plates or the basket ?
I would assume the basket if trying to improve oil flow and cooling.
Pretty quick and easy job tbh. If you don't fancy doing it Kwacky it wouldnt be more than an hours labour for Mike to do it if it helps.

Not sure if it's the basket or the plates. I skim read it when I realised it was something I wasn't going to do.

Pretty sure it will be the basket but ask Mike's advice. As I say don't think it will cost much at all. You can pull the clutch plate and basket without dropping the oil.

We used to drill the basket. In the thinner sections (lands between the guides) at about 1 inch centres. This is info from over a decade ago thou btw. And as mentioned before a different application. One of the guys we worked with was a national level motorcross racer, he showed us.

Re: 2014 Kawasaki Z1000SX ongoing review
It's happened a handful of times. I was a little bit concerned when I heard it the 3rd or 4th time but having read it's common with no known issues I'm not worried about it.

A lad at work has mentioned similar issues on a gixer 5 and was discussing fixes.
I can have a word if you like. He's a top lad and great with anything mechanical.

Another 170 miles before refuelling. Got 17 litres in this morning.
I need to get the thing on a paddock stand and give it a good scrub and polish. The chain hasn't been cleaned since I've had it and I've got some acf50 to spray on the bike.

I've hardly thought about the zx6r. I've not done anything to it. I've got the alternator to put in but I've not taken the cover of the Six since I got the new bike.

How are you finding the power / torque of the 1000 as I know you normally like the revy nature of a 600 IL4

Re: 2014 Kawasaki Z1000SX ongoing review
Im in the habit now of short shifting through the gears and using the torque, but that can mean I'm occasionally looking for the legendary 7th gear.
It still revs up to about 11 or 12000rpm so you can spank when you want to.

Do you think you'll keep the zx6r still, or does this do everything you need and its no longer required?Kwacky wrote:I've hardly thought about the zx6r. I've not done anything to it. I've got the alternator to put in but I've not taken the cover of the Six since I got the new bike.

Re: 2014 Kawasaki Z1000SX ongoing review
Good question. I think I'll keep the zx6r for some of the ride outs and for track days.
I can go for it a bit more on track now it's not my only bike. Before now I had to take it easy as it's main method of getting into work.
