Funny you should mention that, one of the suits on ebay is a 2 piece BKS.

Do one piece offer much more protection than a two piece?

I thought it was more of a comfort over convenience thing.

Pain in the arse when you need a plop though :)

I have to say I've never had a one piece, always two.

Two pieces are much easier to live with on the road.

The argument I always heard is that a one piece is better if you crash, but I reckon things have moved on now. Good two pieces are much better now than they used to be. Plus I always wear an aftermarket back protector. I can't see that a one piece would have any more armour or protection than a good two piece. That's my view

i think they do ,you are relying on a zip to hold a two piece together in a crash, one piece is mainly a single leather panel

The zips are very strong and they're hidden away, covered by leather. There were no signs of give on mine after my spill.

But the argument is a good one. It has to be right I suppose that a single piece of leather isn't going to rip or tear like a two piece could split at the zip..

I've crashed twice in my Berik two piece, the last one was a big'un and there was never an issue with the zip security. In fact, due to the way it overlaps I reckon I've got more protection around the hips. AT the track I just leave it zipped together and treat it as a one piece, but I had the flexibilty to wear it just as a jacket on the road (if I ever get back out there)

horses for courses ,if I crash id rather be in a one piece im not saying two pieces are no good they obviously are but any joint is a weak spot including stitched leather

I'm thinking out aloud.

I am after a one piece, that's what I'm trying to get. I've got a two piece but the trousers have seen better days. What I think I'm telling myself is that a two piece won't be a bad compromise.

Racers use 1 piece for a reason. I agree with you Perkles but saying that as people suggest a good 2 piece should be OK, its just with a one piece you remove the risk of a zip failing so for crash protection it is superior.

Just to throw another option in the ring, personally I prefer way a one piece feels whilst I'm wearing it, it's a pain when I'm hot or when I need to unpack the previous meal, but it still feels better on track than a two piece.
If you're buying a suit for the track, look at how much ventilation you'll need, personally I get really hot on track (I'm unfit) and am grateful for any cooling influence I can get whilst riding, personally speaking its one of the major considerations for me when I look at suits for the track.

Don't know how much bull shit this is but when i bought my first suit the guy explained to me that you want the leathers be tight and not have much extra material as this is what grips the road and makes you roll rather than slide. So in my view a 2 piece has more areas that would grip and make you roll rather than a 1 piece.

Personally loads safer in a 1 piece.

Leather suits have to be tight. He is right as it can snag your skin and/or snag the road.

But there are loads of parts of you that can catch the road and cause you to move or change direction. I remember when some suits with elbow armour were causing all sorts of injuries as the armour was catching both the skin and the tarmac. That as in one pieces.

I do think tech has really moved on for both one and two piece suits.

I've had two piece and one piece suits and tbh if you can get a good fitting one piece then go for it, a couple of years ago at over 13 stone and around 5ft 5 inches I wouldn't have got one to fit that would have looked or felt right, but now being a couple of stone lighter I feel more comfortable on the bike wearing a one piece, it is a pain when stopping for food or a drink if it's a hot day but that doesn't happen a lot in this country
I get knocked down but i get up again.

Just to add my two pence, I like my two piece, feel safe as I would if it was a one piece, zips are strong that join the two together, only problem I have now, is all this chat about new suits I tried mine on tonight.... ha ha I might need to let it out (if possible) too much grub and cake over xmas has taken its toll :(

I did try on loads before I bought this one some years ago, and the cuts are so different, even if the sizes are the same the feel is totally different. pays to get to a shop when they are quiet so you can try on loads at your own pace, plus you need someone to get you out of it as well ha ha I had to get the girl into the changing room to get me out of it.... ;)
