3rd Taekwondo lesson. Did some sparring tonight with the younger ones. The difference between those who know me and those who didn't was funny. One lot were going for it trying to get a punch or a kick in and the others were standing off being polite :D

8.7km in 53 minutes yesterday, my average pace is starting to pick up again. Had to run without music for a change as my new headphones needed some adapters to keep them in my ears.

Aiming for a long slower run tomorrow, hopefully round the 16km (10 mile mark again)

18..2km in 1 hour 54.. I'm happy with the distance and the pace, just need to increase both now... 8 weeks to go.. tick, tock..

Insanity fit test 2 done - only lost one week for the slide :D AND beat all my fit test 1 results! If I wasn't in so much pain I'd be running around cheering... I'll just sit and smile instead! Managing to complete all of the exercises in time with Shaun T now too - V. pleased about the Level 2 drills!!!

Forgot my headphones last night, but decided on a pace run anyway.. just shy of 6km in 33mins, that's got me at just over a 9 minute mile :)

All I need to do now is teach my body how to keep that up over 2 hours.... :^ Back to pounding the tarmac tomorrow, the plan is now for at least 3 runs a week, hoping I can find time for more.

AT LAST .... I CAN POST IN THIS THREAD :D
Been to the Gym this afternoon, the first time in about 5 years

I stopped smoking about 8 months ago (although I like a little Vape now and again) and I've been eating a lot healthier over the last 6 months but wasn't shifting any weight due to lack of exercise

Theres a new Sainsburys in Wolverhampton which has a gym on the complex .... I went in see what the crack is and its £12.99 per month and a £20 joining on fee. I was given the guided tour and it all looked very nice

I then went to take a look at another one which is £14.99 per month and £5 joining on fee. Again, had the guided tour and its very similar to the first one.

A customer of mine is 50yards down the road so I went to have a coffee and a natter and I mentioned the gym as he's a member.
Unfortunately for him, he'd tweaked his back and he's not doing anything until he feels well enough. He then gave me his pass code and told me to use it at my own free will (party)

Not really knowing what I wanted to do, I tried most things .... running machine for 2 miles, rowing machine for 3 miles, loose weights, cycles and the cabled stuff

I know my legs are strong so I'm not too bothered about building those up but I want to have more stamina and bulk up my top half a little whilst shedding a little weight.

Free gym, nice!!

Take it a little easy to start with and build up slowly. But mainly welcome to the thread mate.

See if you can blag a session with a personal trainer, they should be able to give you a bit of a start on a training plan.

Nice work Spudda.

Your legs might be strong but don't skip them. The muscles are pretty big so training your legs both burns calories and it will help trigger your body to making muscle. More muscle burns more calories even when you're resting.

Got my confirmation email back.

Provided the man flu has left me I'm joining a running club on Wednesday 8) Hoping that running with a group of decent runners will give me some decent motivation and help with my pace.

Still haven't done any training, loads of cardio and manic at work so running round like a nutter means my weight as dropped below 11 stone but I feel weak and need to find some time to lift some weights.
I get knocked down but i get up again.

Well, event with a few sniffles I braved the club meet, and I'm really glad I did. Wow,

There was quite a few people there (40 odd i reckon) but there where 2 sessions on offer. I went for hill training and am glad I did, there was a coach and 4 marshels to keep things safe. It was basically pace and form training while running up and down hills, there was no concept of slowing down or taking a break. It's amazing how running in a group makes you push yourself harder than you would do normally.

The club has events 3 or 4 times a week, one of the main ones of interest to me is the Sunday run which is a 10+ mile and the aim for around 9:30 miles which is bang on for my half marathon pace..

You do know it's winter and cold outside, don't you?

Kudos to you. I got cold walking to the gym last night.

Running in the winter is the only thing I like about winter. I get quite hot so the fact it's cold helps me out quite bit..

I am starting to get the running bug again though. I'm going to keep training after the half marathon this year, and see quite how far I can get my fitness. I got the details of the sunday run today, they are doing 12 miles with a majority of that off road. The expected time for the route is 2:20. I know there is no way I can do that pace at the moment, so that is my aim for later in the year.

Well happy today, but a tad achy...

Ran the same route I did a couple of weeks ago, but ran it the opposite way round (and added 2 extra miles just for fun ;) )

Total distance 20.7km in 2 hours 7 mins (PB). I hit a major wall at 18km but managed to struggle the last 3km. My saving grace for the race is the last few miles are only slightly up hill rather than the major hills I have to run up here. I am going to keep a caffeine gel for the last couple of miles though.
