Re: What did you do to your bike today ??
Found out today that the Aprilia could be very expensive to fix
I knew this was a possibility. While trying to loosen the front header to drop the collector off one of the bolts has sheered
I've read about this before on the RSVR forum and it does happen from time to time. They mechanic is going to try moving the radiator and oil coolers out of the way to see if he can drill it out, if not then the only way is to drop the engine out of the bike
and
With moving house, if that is the case then my summer riding could well be very limited...

That's not good to hear Jon. Fingers crossed it should be possible to drill the bolt out and re tap it. I've had to do this at work a few times on various kit and although its not ideal its not too difficult either if you have good access and material to play with.
Hope it works out.
Back up plan any chance of daytime mot on the track bike if needed short term ?

Sorry to hear that mate.
You're welcome to have the zx6r if you want to wait for your bike to be repaired at a later date.

Unfortunately not. The track bike is a proper track bike, it's never had a V5.Blade wrote:Back up plan any chance of daytime mot on the track bike if needed short term ?

I think it should be OK Nutz, a sheared bolt is rarely a show stopper.

Re: What did you do to your bike today ??
I would think the issue is being able to get at it at the right angle. The Aprilia engine is a 60 degree V and so there may be bits in the way without moving the engine.Blade wrote:I think it should be OK Nutz, a sheared bolt is rarely a show stopper.

Spot on Duke.. The hope is that getting the oil coolers and radiator out of the way he can squeeze a drill in, but I'll just have to wait and see.duke63 wrote:I would think the issue is being able to get at it at the right angle. Re: What did you do to your bike today ??
Heard from the garage today, all sorted. With a bit of swearing he's managed to get the bolt out and got the new collector fitted.
Just need to get the mot sorted now and I'm back on the road
