I'm not sure at the moment. Unless we have another cold blast, must of the salt has already been washed off the road.. is there any real benefit?

Yes, I would. Salt hangs about for much longer than you think.

You won't need much. I put some on a rag and wipe the areas likely to be affected.

If you have a compressor then a cheap spray gun mists it on so it get's everywhere and is quick to do.

It can be nice having a quiet exhaust but in the city I definitely prefer being heard by other road users from a safety point of view

I've yet to see a copper, but yes it's literally right next to the airport.

Filled up on the way home and reset the trip, want to see the miles in getting from a tank. Checked the other trip and I've done 400 miles since Friday

I put exactly 19 liters in, and it was brimming full. Just calculated it as 45mpg.

Annoying thing is that's only 2 days.. there where 2 "spirited" rides in the tough

So a week down and I'm now settled into the bike and the commute.

The bike passed the 50k milestone as well. The are a couple of bits I need to look at, but nothing that I think will be major.

The clutch biting point is right at the end of the lever, and dispite my best attempts the adjuster makes no difference. I'm going to give it a bleed over the weekend and check for leaks.

There is also an odd knocking from the final drive area, but it's not constant. There was a comment on the MOT that the chain was a bit tight, so hopefully it's that or a stiff link.

The scottoiler is great, if a little over keen. Need to turn it down a little, but the chain is pristine even after a couple of mucky rides.

Gear wise, I'm quite happy. The hein gerrik jacket is more than up to the job, as are the trousers I bought on the IoM last year.

The stand out stars are the RST gloves I bought off rocket. I'd really recommend them as a good all round glove.

My lid is at least three years old now, and it's starting to show is age. The boots are also old and summer boots as well. Good job I can cope with cold feet, but the over boots do help a lot.

Sounds like you chose well! Take a look at the chain.. if it needs replacing I would highly recommend the DID XW Ring gold chains. Mine has lasted many hundreds of track miles and numerous thousand road miles over about 4 or 5 years now. I'm only replacing it because it feels right to replace it now

I suffered with cold feet during winter rides and bought a pair of returned Daytona Roadstars, nice and warm and cheaper than brand new, no idea why they were returned to the shop as they looked new to me, I’ve still got them and use them as wet weather or winter boots, got to be 11yrs old now.

Fantasic thread Nutz. I actually really lile the VFR think its a great communter, a lot of people seem to go for it so it must be good at doing the job!

So 2 weeks and 1100 miles into commuting and I'm so glad I decided to bike it. Pretty much every day there are jams that would easily add 30 mins or more to the journey in a car.

I'm very impressed with the bike, my only real complaint is the tyres. I've had 2 big "foot down" slips from the front this week in the wet. I can't really afford to change them until I get paid, but I'm getting very tempted to just chuck a set of the Avon's that Frankie posted on the credit card.

The thing I'm most impressed with is how the bike just eats the miles. I never feel tired from the hours ride either way. The wind protection from the fairing is excellent.

Credit card the tyres Jon. It's much cheaper and less painful than a crash. Plus if you get hurt in an off you may not be able to earn / work.

Safety first mate. If there that bad and you have 2 big moments I think you need to change buddy.
