Looking out of the window, wondering what happend to summer. It's very grey and damp. I feel like we've been cheated this year.

Well, it's about a bazillion degrees centigrade here, and I've got some cycling to do.
On the plus side, I got one of my bikes out of the shop yesterday & it's now finally fully sorted from when I was knocked off. Whole right side of my body is still a bit buggered, but I'm getting back to normal, slowly but surely.

Cycling again.....was 102 when I left, 109 by the time I got home. Not the best idea I've ever had....but still manageable for 10-11 miles at an easy pace. Maybe it'll help me shed a few pounds??

Hospital for an adrenal function test, they took blood, pumped something into me to activate my adrenalin production then let me cook for half an hour, took more blood then off I go.
I didn't get aggressive at all, just very flushed and some stomach pain... What a fun way to spend the day. I even made a dad joke to the nurse "Great start to the week, you got blood from a Stone"

Let Byron have the day off school for his 18th and we snuck out for a pub lunch and he got to buy his first drink. He’s obviously smarter than his old man, because his second drink was a Pepsi.
He also had a job interview for a cafe that happens to be just a 10 min walk from us and they are keen to take him on as a kitchen hand. He’ll be doing Saturday mornings to start, but are looking to give him week day shifts as well once I can organise school release for work experience. But in a month he’ll be done with school all together anyway.
(That was actually yesterday, forgot to push submit)
Today I’m going to a meet and greet with my first prospective client. Only a few days worth of work filling in for his current support worker who’s going on holiday, but still getting my toes wet at least!

Way, way, WAY too hot today, so I stayed indoors and cleaned everything I could think of, and showered three times just for a bit of relief.
Supposed to cool down quite a bit tomorrow, and then back to normal by Wednesday. It can't happen too soon.

How far away are the fires? Are they in the north of the state?

The "Line Fire" as it's been named, is an hour or more...probably more, drive east of here, in the San Bernardino mountains....the foothills of the road leading up to Big Bear.
The other one is much closer, in the Santa Ana mountains....maybe 25 miles from me? I know the area up in those hills fairly well. It's not far from my old place in Orange.

I washed the bike then took my parents to hospital for my dad's ECG check in the car, and when we got there the rear passenger door would not open, the deadlock in the latch has stuck on so that's tomorrow's job.
Dismantle the door with it stuck closed, sounds fun

Did a 6 hr buddy shift supporting a 34 yr old bloke with Cerebral Palsy while he did a shift at a hardware store.
Sounds simple right?
I pretty much spend most of my time preventing him get backed over on by forklifts as he hooned about in his ‘new’ electric wheel chair. The rest of the time was handing him cardboard to throw into the skip bin. Assistance for toileting and spoon feeding was also involved. I did learn how to load him into his adapted car and strap him down as well.
His normal carer is away next week so today was learning what I have to for running solo next week.
This is not the type of work I am really looking to do in disability support, but I do need to get the runs under my belt and some positive referrals/reviews as it is apparent begin a brand new provider is a struggle.

Sounds tough. You’re right about getting some stuff under your belt but maybe you have to state what type of support you offer in more detail?
Top job though

Oh it was entirely my choice to take on this job, I actually applied for it. But yeah, has cemented my understanding of the space I’m more interested in. All good experience though, and still fulfilling in giving someone the opportunity to have more life experience and enjoyment than they may have otherwise had.

Earthquake!!!......a 5.0 or so, 46 miles away.
What's great is a phone alert let us know about 15-20 seconds before it arrived.
What's bad is, both of us just sat looking mystified instead of scrambling to a doorway, or other form of cover.
The advance warning is still impressive though.
Most impressive.

I'm just impressed that the system works...it's might not have made any difference to me, or anyone else so distant from the epicenter, but someone, somewhere, is no doubt better off for it.
All we got was what felt like the tail end of a 'roller'.
Like I said though, I'm pretty damned impressed that we got an advanced warning, even if it's just something that outpaced the speed of the quake.
They should just send out a mass text that says "BRACE YOURSELF!!"

Today I had a test drive in a newer car, a 2020 Hyundai Kona Electric.
I hope I don't regret putting a deposit on it and I fully intend to make use of the free EV charging at work, free tax and quiet driving... It is very easy to let my speed creep up with no engine noises though.
