Should give considerable savings to our power costs and gives us a seamless back up power source during blackouts (not uncommon up here)

Getting Starlink shortly as well, so we maintain communications/internet during blackouts as we have zero mobile reception here.

All good steps to begin able to have Byron being confident in being in the house alone for more than a few hours.
I'll be interested to see how you get on - doing a similar thing soon myself.
So Cookie, we are moving into spring and having a run of nice sunny days. Quite regularly the stored power is lasting to close to midnight. We lost 3 kids to other parents last night and with only 3 of us here the Powerwall lasted until 6.30am and we started making solar again an hour later. So only drew 1.3kW from the grid today and unlikely to take any more.

Hot water heating is on a controlled load circuit for off peak only use. But that is now the majority of our power costs. So investigating heat pump hot water systems. Up to 80% more efficient and I can choose the time to max solar use.

Thats a great result. Is it a Powerwall 2 or 3?

A heat pump hot water cylinder is a good call - being able to use it during peak solar should remove any HW costs too.

Powerwall 2 (14kW) coupled to 5 kW (post inversion) of solar.

Inlaws in Portugal have got this for hot water.

The water is fecking hot all day, enough generated to shower 4 adults and run the washing machine and dishwasher.Image

Ordered a new mobile phone this morning. Mine had just gone out of contract, was thinking about keeping it but the darling daughter dropped hers yesterday and killed it.

Job searching and might wash the bike in a bit, then off to work tonight, I need to move to day shift but it's not happening where I currently work.

Mowed the lawns for the first time since I’ve been unemployed (lol) the top house section barely needed a buzz over but the back gully section took about 5 hrs!

Setting up the new phone, it's pretty quick these days but a lot of apps still need you to sign in. So far no forgotten usernames or passwords

Bought and installed Starlink satellite internet today. The cable run from inside to outside through the wall/roof was the hardest bit, but all done in 3 hrs. Got an aftermarket dish to pole mount and a standard aerial pole from the hardware store and came together well.

Main reason was to maintain communications (no cell reception here so rely on wifi calling) and Powerwall management in a black out. We lost grid supply a few days ago and while that wall kept us going the internet was gone (exchange no power and their UPS is still out of service) and I couldn’t make any adjustments to the power management as I had no connectivity to the Tesla wall.

The other up side is far better speeds! We used to get 25-45 Mbps on fibre to the curb, but regular dropouts and speed down to 5-10 Mbps during heavy rain (pits flooding). Today I’m getting 250-340 Mbps constantly 🤟🏼

I have friends with Starlink in France - i was really impressed with it.

I'm also looking to get it in the future (more news on that soon). As a plus its one less thing to worry about should the power go.

I looked at Starlink in France and for the UK. It costs twice the price in the UK which i could not understand.

Or is that yet another Brexit bonus?

It is expensive in the UK. I think part of it is to drive demand in France.

Ah....cycling vs. heat wasn't so bad after all, 20 easy miles, and I ran into a friend at the turn around mark.
I'm kinda tempted to go out again TBH, but I've got some things to do around the house.

Picking up one of my MTBs from the shop & then 'maybe' going for a quick ride...I dunno - we're under an "Excessive Heat Warning" for the next four or five days...I'm not particularly impressed with the thought of that, TBH....I had a few ride days planned that won't really be an option now. Supposed to be over 100F tomorrow and Friday.

I’m a serial offender for pushing it to hard in the heat here at home because I worked in tropical heat for so long I’m a bit desensitised to it.

But 100°F is definitely getting up there and I think giving it a miss is a good idea.
