What impact does a local election ACTUALLY have? Does it have any effect on the next general election? I.e. let's say I vote green now and liberal in a general, does the one vote undo the other? If I want to vote green in the general do I need to vote green now?!

Vote with your beliefs Cav, we need to break this two-party duopoly. Even if your candidate doesn't win it sends a message.

Re: What are you doing today ??
I've just checked the candidate list and there's 10 bloody people standing. What the hell... 3 each from Green, Labour and Conservative and only 1 from Liberal Democrats. No independents here.
As for the PCC, I certainly won't be voting for our current one... all he's done is raise revenue through speeding fines in areas without any pedestrians or housing... i.e. the safest bits of road.

Monty is right. It's the only way to push for changes to the voting system.

20-mile bike ride.
(gasps)
....Was going to be a 40-mile ride, but I'm just not feeling it today.
Still feel good though, and glad I went out. I wouldn't care, but the weather was perfect.

Re: What are you doing today ??
Yeah well scrap all that hope and promise, the Exe management has squashed the idea of any redundancies prior to end of productionKiwikrasher wrote: As for the redundancy timeframe it’s still the great unknown. So many moving pieces the goal posts are constantly changing. But when I first got back home last time and things had blown up with Byron and his mum, and I realised he wouldn’t be going back to his mums, I actually rang the Field Manager to tell him I may need to quit. He’s a great bloke, ex Air Force as well, and I’ve always got on with him really well. Even had a few Darwin drinking sessions together. He also has 2 grandkids with ASD, so is very sympathetic to my situation. He implored me not to quit and “do what you can to make the next couple of swings”. He wasn’t able to give me definitive timeframes or promises, other that plans were afoot to reduce numbers out here PRIOR to end of production and that he would ensure I was in the first group of people to go. He doesn’t want to see me miss out on a payout as he knows how much it would help my situation at home and give me the breather to set Byron up transitioning from school and into adult life. So short answer is “f**k knows, but quite possibly sooner than I think”

We've had an unexpected upturn in production after a trial in running lower front end pressures (greater pressure differential for the wells and gives them the ability to unload easier) so they don't want anyone being paid out now as natural attrition will put us close to critical manning levels anyway.
I'm going to have to make a tough decision in the coming months

Going to see my team get relegated, then spend a few hours drowning my sorrows

Struggling with IT issues at work. Outlook hasn't been very good since we upgraded to 365. Today is been very slow, it's not working with our casefile software and it's frequently failing to save.

Re: What are you doing today ??
Getting home, overnight stop in Adelaide and pushed my 6am Sydney flight back to 9am so having a nice buffet breakfast and relaxed morning and will still be home before everyone gets back from school and work.
Byron’s done really well while I’ve been away. His emotional state has remained very balanced and controlled and he’s risen to the challenges much better than we expected. Jess was an absolute legend, and it just shows how he can manage with the right level of support and understanding.
Definitely looking forward to getting home and seeing everyone

I took full advantage of the weather and went for a long walk with the dog. It certainly is a beautiful evening.

Been for a lovely mountain bike ride in the woods.
I also lightly dropped my phone today which, because of the already weakened mechanical properties thanks to my Son's wooden police car cracking the screen, has now resulted in my screen flickering like it's tripping balls on LSD
