What have your employer said? Would they help with quarantine costs?
Their preference is to relocate Darwin for a minimum of 1 roster cycle (days/break/nights/break) which is 15 weeks. They will pay for accommodation and a small allowance. I got my notice today that i had to accept or decline that relocation within 24 hrs. I declined it in 5 mins. I'm not going to be away from my kids for that long, especially not Byron, as I'm the only one that does his therapies and keeps momentum on his strategies. He basically treads water when he's with his mum. I do what I can over the phone, but it's hard to get forward momentum because he needs consistent and compassionate guidance. That's not his mum's jam unfortunately.

So the companies standpoint now I've declined that is that if my area becomes a hot spot, and I have to do the govt. quarantine, is that i do the first week in my own time and pay for that week myself ($1,250) and the second week is in lieu of the company quarantine we have been doing anyway (to prevent COVID getting offshore) and they will cover that weeks cost.

If due to flight unavailability (because of lack of demand, who wants to fly to Darwin if they have to quarantine) I cannot get to Darwin, then it's unpaid till I can, and I lose all my entitlements while unpaid, including health insurance.

The govt. quarantine is confined to a room, and it's not any comfy hotel room, its a half shipping container room with the absolute basics

Sorry to hear all that, kiwi.

I know it's not a helpful answer but I find it hard to believe any job is worth that.

I listened to medical scientist on the radio the other day and his prediction is we will be living with this for 5 years, vaccine or not, and 5 years out of my life at my age is a long time, made even more poignant with MiL's issues.

Travelling from Spain is now subject to the 14 day quarantine in the UK and flights out have been cancelled. Not good times.

If I was single I’d jump at the chance of a paid NT holiday by the company and a lot of the single or dinks (double income no kids) crowd are happy with the offer. But unfortunately it’s not my situation.

The govt quarantine is worth the hassle for me because leave no pay would sink me in about 6 months. I burnt through a lot of my savings when I was off with my spinal issues. I don’t fancy losing my house.

Just heard the guys at work that were due home yesterday coming into NSW have been refused entry. NSW have said they have to do 14 days quarantine in Darwin prior to flying into NSW. Seems like I snuck in by the skin on my teeth last week.

I’m due out again in 3 weeks. I don’t know what is going to happen. If I go, likely I’ll not get back at all for my next break so 12 weeks minimum away. Or stay at home and not get paid for 2 months minimum.

Never has rock and a hard place seemed so relevant.

Not good to hear Kiwi. Hope things change quickly as 12 weeks away sound tough.

Glad you managed to get home and make the most of it (y)

Government Wastes Millions On PPE That Doesn't Work – Again

It comes after the revelation that 50m face masks, bought as part of a £252m contract with Ayanda Capital – a London firm that specialises in “currency trading, offshore property, private equity and trade financing – proved essentially useless to health workers.
Yeah, that doesn't at all sound fishy.....

The company that got the contract belongs to a mate of Lis Truss.

Mrs C's sister was one of them. 32 years service and lost her job on Sunday. No thanks, just had to click on a button on the company intranet. ;(

Shes taken redundancy as she says she wouldn't want to be on a plane with all this anyway.

They are going to sell their house and move north mortgage free.

I have had two clients tell me they are retiring in just the last two weeks.
