As daft as it sounds you getting yourself back into a normal working routine is beneficial for everyone.

I agree entirely. Anxiety is irrational but even knowing that doesn't help frustratingly. I'm in the office now though and so far so good. I'm thinking as positively as I can.

Re: What ails you today?
In my experience only time will change it. The more days you spend at work the easier it will be. You just have no data to prove your son will be ok without you. Rationally you know it to be true, but anxiety doesn’t work rationally, so the more days pass that it becomes the truth, the easier it will be.Cav wrote:I agree entirely. Until then just use your coping strategies for the anxiety and don’t be hard on yourself

Re: What ails you today?
Nearly everyone I know seems to be struggling one way or another at the moment, but it's not really surprising. The whole world has just gone through something not seen on this scale since the Blitz. Much much worse in some countries.
Sadly it's the tip of the iceberg, I think we're going to see a major mental health crisis across the world.

Sadly no One in power wants to confront the real issues for mental health problems.

That sinking feeling in my guts knowing I fly out to work tomorrow. Couldn’t eat breakfast, made me dry heave.

I was going to say something very similar.C00kiemonster wrote:Keep the faith matey - it brings money in if nothing else. Take care.kiwikrasher wrote:That sinking feeling in my guts knowing I fly out to work tomorrow. Couldn’t eat breakfast, made me dry heave.
It may be crap going off shore and all the quarantine, but eyes on the prize. Remember the times between swings and the great lifestyle your able to provide for your family with your sacrifices.
Plus, I doubt there are a million mice on the platform..

We’ve avoided the mice at home it’s seems. I have resident Tawny Frogmouthed Owl and I’m pretty sure he’s picking off any invaders.D6Nutz wrote:I was going to say something very similar.C00kiemonster wrote:Keep the faith matey - it brings money in if nothing else. You are all right, I made a choice earlier this year to see out the next few years offshore. For all the reasons you have mentioned. And there is limited opportunities on shore atm even if I changed my mind.
But I didn’t expect to then deal with Jess losing a parent, Byron taking a bit of a regression and full COVID lockdowns for most of my break. I can reason it all away, but the anxiety was at its worst ever yesterday. At that moment it doesn’t feel worth it at all.
But being mindful and appreciating what it does afford me and my family does help. Jess told me to go through my photo stream and remind myself the fun and times I did have with the family this break, and that helped a lot.

You're a legend mate.. you really do "take one for the team" and I know full well they all appreciate everything you do for them even if they don't tell you enough. How long are you in hotel quarantine for before you head offshore?

Lack of sleep. I'm knackered. Completely drained. As much as I love having a proper summer the hot sticky nights can do one.

I agree.. it's particularly not great with an uncomfortable newborn who needs changing at least every 2 hours through the night.
We open a window at the front (North) and the back (South) and pull air in from the front with a fan. It helps

Pretty rough night post vaccination. Pretty bad body aches and hot and cold sweats/fever. Bugger all sleep.
Feel like I’ve been on a 3 day bender this morning, but seem to have shaken the reaction now.

I also miss read my calendar and realised I’m home for shorter this trip due to having to do extra quarantine on the way to work, so after a chat to the Dr, he agrees 4 weeks would be too short between shots so I’m booked in for as soon as I get back from next trip which will be smack on 12 weeks.

Ah that sucks for you.
