Charging issues have returned
Aye up folks ... Longtime no post
Hope you're all well ??
Had the dreaded 188 on speedo today followed by the 0 mph on the dash whilst moving.
Just clicked when I tried to start her and Had to bump start her to get home.
Can't decide if it's a speedo issue or if the dreaded charging issue has returned
Queue Kwacky's 0% finance link to Kawasaki
Optimate on bike now and it's lights have lit up as if it's fully charged
Changed the stator and the regulator 2 years ago when she died in Mid Wales
New battery 6 weeks ago as well
Thoughts ?

Re: Charging issues have returned
Is it worth checking all terminals Spudda.?
Fwiw R&R is probably a fair bet.

Re: Charging issues have returned
That sounds more like a charging issue. Have you got a meter to test it?

Re: Charging issues have returned
Hi Spudda! good to see you back!
Dunno how much you have caught up on the forum but I traded my D600 in on a multistrada. As such, I have a brand new mosfet regulator and wiring with heavy duty weather proof plug that I never got around to putting on my bike. If you want it, it's your for postage costs.
Also, I don't know if you remember it, but I bought that LED rear tail light from the dude in the States (Peter someone I think?) from D600.org days and never fitted that either. Same deal, yours for postage if you want it. I did test it and it's bright as hell, plus you can program it to flash on initial braking.
I'll have a look when I get home and see if there is anything else that might be hopeful for you.

Re: Charging issues have returned
Oh god - these issues.
Try looking at the negative cable as it bolts to the frame and the battery - sometimes they work loose.
Otherwise it might well be a stator or pinched wires in the headstock.
I'm in the UK for a few months from next month, so let me know if you want some help as i'll be in the midlands some weekends.

Re: Charging issues have returned
I brought a new battery when the issues first returned .... Is it possible I could have a dud battery that doesn't charge?
Put the old battery back on and it's fired straight away

Re: Charging issues have returned
Actually I think you're right.: A faulty battery could well produce the same symptoms as a faulty R&R, because it wouldn't accept the charge being fed to it.Spudda wrote:I brought a new battery when the issues first returned .... Is it possible I could have a dud battery that doesn't charge?

Re: Charging issues have returned
Maybe I was a little previous buying a new battery as I couldn't wait for the old one to charge as I was due out and the bike shop was only a minute down the road
Just got to monitor the old battery now .... And buy a multimeter

Re: Charging issues have returned
I would be surprised if the new battery was duff TBH. Much more likely to be the R/R or the generator.
A duff r/r will kill a battery so be careful. You should notice the battery get very hot if the r/r is gone.

Totally agree with the above.duke63 wrote:I would be surprised if the new battery was duff TBH. Much more likely to be the R/R or the generator.

But fwiw there was someone on 675.cc not long ago who did get a brand new battery that was faulty. Diagnosing his persistent fault had us all baffled for quite a while, because we assumed that it therefore wouldn't be the battery.

Took the seat off as soon as I got back and the battery didn't feel hot
