I doubt there is much if any difference in the manufacturing and development costs of a 600cc supersports bike and a 1000cc superbike yet the manufacturer can charge another £3-4k for a superbike.
From an economics point of view the 600s make no sense to the manufacturer.

Thing is Andy, modern day supersports make similar power to the original superbikes and are probably faster around a circuit so if you think about it, asking £11k isn't exactly uncalled for.

Just look at the R1 as an example, 6 axis inertia unit, race abs, power modes, launch control, traction control, slide control, quickshifter, down shifter not to mention magnesium wheels and alloy tank all of which are standard on the base model R1 but not even options on the R6.
If all thinks were equal the only difference would be engine internals which would be minimal cost difference. So all in you could argue the middleweight are better value for money I suppose.
