Re: CBR600RR no more
Personally I think litre engines are more rounded and all round useful than 600 engines.
I do love being able to properly rag my 748 on the road (something you struggle to do on a litre bike now) but it is very single minded and only good for that one thing.

Re: CBR600RR no more
I've ridden both in the past and I physically couldn't get everything the bigger bike had to give unless I was deep into incarceration territory or on a track, hence the 675. (Plus I'm the right size for it, 5'11 @ just under 11stone)

Re: CBR600RR no more
They're better at cruising than a 600 and less tiring to ride in my experience - they're also more comfortable typically.
You can chill in one gear and still be as quick as someone ragging the arse off a 600 (if you know what you're doing).
When me and 2 guys I know go too fast for public roads I can't keep up if they don't want me to, they have to 'chill' on the straights while I'm flat out and they are still pulling away, Get to the corners and I pull them back in but that's because I'll be giving it 95%.
The fact is you can get places quicker with less effort

Re: CBR600RR no more
Do agree the rider aids are absolutely cracking, they are saving a lot of people while riding on the road and track a like, but think people will miss the 600 range because you can have so much fun on them

Re: CBR600RR no more
A litre bike will be less frantic (though the 675 may be an exception here) but its each to their own.

But nobody is buying them which is why they are being discontinued. There is no other reason.Rossgo wrote:Do agree the rider aids are absolutely cracking, they are saving a lot of people while riding on the road and track a like, but think people will miss the 600 range because you can have so much fun on them

Re: CBR600RR no more
No one is buying the new ones. Generally the second hand 600s are still going for decent money.
The Japanese 600s haven't been upgraded for years and from I've read on 675cc the recent changes to the Daytona have made it more like a Jap bike.
What's the point in buying a brand new 600 when you can get the same bike for few less money?
It'll be interesting to see how Kawasaki respond to this. A brand new 600cc zx6r with all of the tricks and gizmos found on the zx10r could be a big seller.

Ahh, I see... Bit like a milk float then.Perkles wrote:......lowdown grunt and bags of torque, piece of piss to ride most times you dont even need to change gear
Sorry Perky, that was a bit flippant (even for me). But even a 250cc 4T bike without sports tune can 0-60 faster than a sports car & exceed the speed limit by at least 50%
I guess I simply don't get the "ease" argument when it comes to motorbikes....

Re: CBR600RR no more
You will always have divided opinion on which is best 600 or 1000cc road bikes but I personsally don't see the end of the 600 class as a bad thing.
The whole reason manufacturers make 600cc sportsbikes is one simple reason, supersport racing.
If supersport racing was to end which I'm sure I heard last year the class was soon to end, would it truly be a bad thing ? It would free up manufacturers to make whatever they wanted to make as there middleweight sportsbike. For example if Ducati hadn't left the supersport race classes we would have never had awesome bikes such as the 848,899 and latest 959 Panigale.
Regards replacing the supersport racing class I would imagine at BSB level this could possibly be done as a national Moto2 series. Regards World supersport perhaps it won't be replaced at all in the wsbk paddock as Dorna who own wsbk already have a world moto2 series in their motogp race calender. Could this be why wsbk have changed racing wsbk race 1 to the Saturday?
Also as pointed out earlier 1000cc road bikes are more rideable due to electronic aids but also power modes let you have a 600, 750 and 1000 bike in one machine which is a benefit to owners and reduces tooling and production costs to manufacturers.
One thing is sure the only constant is change and change isn't always a bad thing.

I've owned both and love both equally, the current zx10r is the best of both worlds its a fire breathing monster that loves to be revved and thrashedStMarks wrote:Ahh, I see... Re: CBR600RR no more
I wonder if it's the price that puts people off. Look at how much these 600s are, you may as well pay a little more and get a 1000 with all the gadgets

Re: CBR600RR no more
That's another factor I reckon. They're close to £10k now for a new one. You can get a good second hand one for half that price.

If i was about to pay £8-9k for a 600 then I see the ZX10R for £12k, I would 100% get the ZX10R...

Re: CBR600RR no more
£10k for a brand new ZX10R. A few £££ more than the RRP of a zx6r.
It's a no brainer, isn't it?

But why.??
Why is the (1000 so cheap, or the 600 so expensive). When you look at what you are getting for your money.......

Re: CBR600RR no more
I guess that the new 2016 model makes the previous ZX10R cheaper, as usually happens.
As for the increase in the prices of 600s, I don't know. The zx6r had an update in 2012 or 2013 but nothing since then. It seems that the bike makers have decided amongst themselves to increase the price.

Re: CBR600RR no more
The new 2016 gen 5 zx10r as Kwacky says has driven the price of the gen4 zx10r model down.
If you look at RRP prices of current models the difference is anywhere from 3k to 10k between middle weight and superbike depending on manufacturer.
I imagine some of the desire for a 600 for newly qualified riders will be lower insurance premiums. I imagine insurance on a 1000cc is expensive without being over 25/30 with some experience. Even now in my 40's I'm asked for what experience I have on a litre bike when shopping for insurance

Re: CBR600RR no more
Wasn't it Yen currency crashing that drove up the price and has never come down since. Not sure if the yen has recovered or not tbh though.Kwacky wrote:I guess that the new 2016 model makes the previous ZX10R cheaper, as usually happens.

Re: CBR600RR no more
I love my 675r but I certainly wouldn't be paying £11k list price for a new one! It's going to be interesting to see what the remaining 600 supersports manufacturers do.
