I suppose they are trying to keep everyone as safe a possible. I know its not the same, but can you facetime with her, (or have you been doing that) its not the same as being there, but she can see a face rather than just voices...

Just catching up on this. How's your mum, Kwacky? Has anyone managed to see her?

Re: Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia
She's home. Two negative covid tests. No idea what the infection was. She's had a blood transfusion. She goes back next week for more tests.
Ta for asking.

Glad she's home and good to hear 2 negative covid tests.
Fingers crossed the tests are good next week.

Re: Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia
Mum started chemo this week. She's on the tablets. Unfortunately she reacted badly to the tablets. Her GP told her to call an ambulance, which she did.
They've done a bank of tests. She's going to be lucky if she's here in 3 months.

Re: Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia
Thanks all. I had a chat with her this afternoon. She's still waiting for some test results. Once they've got those they'll come up with a plan. It's a life span versus quality of life decision now. She'll stay in hospital next week so they can do a full course of IV chemo to see how she responds.

Re: Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia
Very difficult to deal with. It hard enough in normal times but in these covid times its even harder when you cannot just go and sit and talk with her.
Hope she is able to have some decent quality of life over the coming months.

She's responded to the chemo well enough to be allowed home for Christmas.

Re: Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia
She's back in hospital. She went in for a blood test and her white voice cell count was over 200. It's supposed to be in single figures.
They're doing the usual tests and treatment but she's been told to have a chat with the family. She could have intensive chemo but it's really harsh and it's got about a 30% chance of improving things.
Without treatment we're looking at 3 or 4 weeks.
She's very tired and emotional at the moment. Because she's in hospital we can't go and see her.
It's going to be a tough few weeks.
