does anyone outside of the film industry give a shit?
I can't understand why the media is so full of stories about it, who wore what, what mega expensive free gifts they were given, who went to which party.
Bunch of self congratulatory arse if you ask me.

Re: The Oscars
I didn't give a toss when I went to the Mortgage awards and im directly involved in that so why do I care about who winds what in an occupation that doesn't effect me at all? at the end of the day I don't need a movie to have award or not to decide if I liked it.

Re: The Oscars
I never quite understand why we have award ceremonies for any art form. Music is the same.
That said when we went to the Anne Frank house in Amsterdam last week, they have Shelley Winters original Oscar for her portrayal of one of the characters in the original film. Pretty sure I have never seen a real Oscar before.

That's just it isn't it, Art of any type is FAR too subjective to really be judged as to what is good and what isn't.

Well...I suppose it sifts out those who make movies to make money, from those who make movies that make a point.

Re: The Oscars
Historically a lot of awards were given to films that were fairly arty, not successful. I’m guessing that leads to a contest for the most arty judge etc etc.
