its coming out bang in the middle of the block. I tried nipping up the studs and it improved slightly and move along the seem a bit.The crank felt nice and tight one the reason i did not split it.

But thanks for the heads up ill have a read and see whats what before stripping

Ok so the crank seal has a lip on it which means to replace it you have to split the cases.... oh well

Sweet. Does look good.

Did you have to split the engine again?

Have you managed to locate the source of crankcase leak yet Rocket.?
Also, I think I'd be tempted to renew all the bearings whilst you're stripping the crank. There will never be a better time, and their life is finite on a 2T anyway.

Definitely change the bearings.. RS's were renowned for heat seizing bearings and spitting riders off at 90+mph

Crank case had been split before. And not sealed correctly. I could see we're it was leaking when I split it.
It's not as simple as changing bearings as they are welded cranks and really need doing by a specialist. So I checked the crank and it's well in the tolerance so it'a gone back together. About 3/4 through putting the engine back together and then I will pressure test it.

Fair enough mate, if there is no discernible wear on the mains or big ends then it would have been a waste of time & money. Sorry if I was stating the obvious, it's just that bearings used to fail so quickly that I used to replace them & the crank seals almost as a matter of course when a block was split.
But that was usually on singles, and a far more straightforward task. Back then even decent bearings & oil seals together were cheap as chips too.

i figured it would help me understand the wiring better and if i ever needed to look back at a later date it would be easier to work out what I have done.

You should get some "RStrines 250" stickers made up for this bike, going to be a beast on the back roads.
