Hey peeps.. Having racked up fifty odd thousand in 3 years on the R1.. And still solid and looks mint.. My mate convinced the missus that's extremely high mileage for that bike... And is unsafe he he..

She kind of agreed then that I should consider getting a new bike.. BUT also convinced her to still keep the R1 as I'd get nothing for it...despite it looks show room due to mileage..

Ignoring the fact the R1 will still go strong for another fifty odd thou.. Am looking at

Another R1....S1000rr or.....the trump card.. Tiger 800xc

Any thoughts.

PS I say another R1 because of reliability for my level of mileage combined with grin factor and sound.

That's just "nicely run in" for a quality feat of Japanese engineering IMO mate.

Fwiw I feel that another R1, or the BMX S1k, are going to offer you nothing you don't already have. So the answer has to be Grrrrrrr ( as Fkkr1s would say).

Can't quite see why you would want two of the same bike.

Buy something different dependent on what you want it for.

Are you going to continue to run the R1 for commuting? If so then there's no point getting another R1. I think the Tiger would be better for you when you're looking to get your next commuter. So that leaves the BMW.

If keeping the R1, defo get something a bit different like the tiger 800 or a superduke etc

Well I have just put my tiger through its first mot, and I have no plans just yet in changing or getting rid of, I am lucky enough to have the S1 as well, and the difference is chalk and cheese, but oh how do I love the tiger it is so much fun.

It is more than capable, and makes you work for it, but the rewards I.e. A stupid grin for the whole day is a given. Ha ha yes as said above I love my tiger, so my two pence is get a tiger XC as they look better IMO.

I would P/X the R1 for the Tiger and then buy a new R1 , simples

No can do.. Other half would know I had two new bikes that way.. At least if I get a new bike first then secretly get another black R1 she wouldn't have a clue.. But to part ex it for a new bike she would know I should still have only one bike

Anyway kind of agree not to have another R1... pointless especially as no change much in the model and mine is still good for a 100k miles I am sure. So heart is set on the Tiger 800 I think as I fancy doing a bit of endure/trail riding. Get the tiger XC with a set of the chunkiest road legal knobblyes.. job done.

As for the S1000... nice looking bike and would like one but I guess am not going to ride that any better than I ride the R1.

Watch this space... hope to have one before end of summer unless something crops up!

The Tiger does look like a good piece of kit and an excellent all rounder.

How about using that as a commuter and then giving the R1 a full refresh?

Cant beat the R1 as a commuter in London.. I pretty much fly down between cars filtering with bar ends sometimes an inch off the vehicles and having to wack my mirrors down on the approach...which is easier than wide bars on enduro's.. Plus the mass of the tiger not as compact as sport bike.

But yes refresh the R1 deffo.. wouldn't mind Tech3 race finish and add few things like a shifter and some bits of carbon... We will see. Already have a new complete clutch unit stored.. on 52,000 miles.. kind of expecting a replacement at some point soon.. however doesn't seem to feel like its on its way out just yet!

Decent article on buying s/h in PB mag this month. If you can find a decent one its a lot of special bike for the money.

If I wasn't in the market for a sports car I would buy an rsv4 tomorrow, but I just can't justify buying too new exotic pieces of kit in the same year even if you earn very little on your savings I just can't part with it that easily after all its hard enough to earn

Did you ever make a decision about another bike?
