Re: Just one bike
I negotiate for a living.
I've made money on the street triple.
Do you want to pass me some eggs while you're on your soap box?

Re: Just one bike
No worries Kwacky.
Each to their own. PCP is popular and has a place I don't dispute that. I just can't accept finance is cheaper and thats all im saying. However its dressed up, it costs money to borrow money.
Anyway what you buying? Any decisions?

Re: Just one bike
I don't think PCP would be cheaper, it's just like paying rent imo. But it is an option if I'm looking to keep swapping my bikes.
No decision, far from it. Test rides will happen after I've moved.
The Versys has depreciated massively, it's quite a shock how little it's worth, so I may as well keep it for work. If that's the case then there's no point looking at bigger Adventure bikes, which was the plan when I was looking at the one bike only route.

Re: Just one bike
Can you lease a bike?
Not looked into myself, but a guy at work reckons it was massively cheaper (in his circumstances) to lease his car
rather than PCP finance it.
Only suggest as you mentioned like paying rent.

Re: Just one bike
If there is a deal for leasing, it’ll fall down on the agreed mileage limit in a one bike scenario, the commuting will rack up the miles and you’re faced with a bike you have to pay for but can’t ride unless you pay an excess mileage penalty.Blade wrote:Can you lease a bike?

My company have fallen foul of this with my company vehicle, they massively underestimated a 3yr mileage by approx 40% and have been caned on the costs.

Re: Just one bike
Leasing rarely works well in my experience as the leasing company expect the vehicle to be returned in perfect condition. They have the option to charge for issues they think should be rectified.
I expect however that nearly all new vehicles will be leased once electric vehicles become the norm.

When I started this thread I had no intention of moving and was looking for a do it all bike, plus I thought I would get decent money for the Versys.Deegee wrote:[

But the Versys is worth about 65% of what I paid for it and I'm moving house to somewhere with a garage, which means it's easy to keep a second bike as it's not sat outside in the crap weather and the insurance is about half of what I'm paying now.

Re: Just one bike
Tbh when they are all automated i'd be happy to pay for them to turn up when i wanted to use one and then go away again. I dont know how it would deal with the farm animals that roam our lane from time to time thoughduke63 wrote:Leasing rarely works well in my experience as the leasing company expect the vehicle to be returned in perfect condition. Re: Just one bike
I agree when there fully automated it would seem sensible to just pay as you use and this seems to be the way we are headed.C00kiemonster wrote:Tbh when they are all automated i'd be happy to pay for them to turn up when i wanted to use one and then go away again. Question is will there still be vehicles designed, marketed and sold to enthusiasts for purely recreational use? Or will the market shift to just providing a financially attractive mode of transport and vehicles will purely be for transport and not pleasure?

Re: Just one bike
Mostly from column A with a smidge from Column B.
I'm half tempted to buy an older CBR600rr or ZX6R just to keep tucked away in the garage so I'll always have an old school sports bike to ride.

Me too. Only problem is I don't want to stop at just one. I could build my own museum

Re: Just one bike
Your SP2 is without doubt a keeper. That's the sort of bike you'll never want to part company with.

I have no doubt there will be vehicles for recreational use but i very much doubt they will be petrol driven.

That would have to replace the Versys and then you still have another choice for weekend bikeKwacky wrote:Kwacky wrote:Insurance for the H2SX is over two grand

Re: Just one bike
I don't think I would want a 200bhp supercharged bike for the daily ride to work. I would lose my licence within a week.
