WOW... That must be the ultimate in beyond control & terrifying .
You will have been far too occupied to be bothering with noticing this, but I wonder what those ever circling sharks do when that sort of event occurs..
Do they all head for the rig, in the hope of an impromptu feast, or head for open water away from source of danger.
Being night shift can't really see any fish life unless it's directly under one of the over the side spot lights. And funny enough the 3 big earthquakes I've experienced out
here have all been at night, and I've been on shift for 2. Last one was 30 Dec 2021 @ 7.4 Magnitude from a similar area.
Tbh, the shark population out
here has drastically diminished in the last few years. Back in 2016 Timor issued fishing licences to Chinese companies and within a year the shark population around our platform was noticeably reduced. From seeing dozens under the lights each night, to barely seeing one or two a day.
How it used to look.... [video]

But when this is happening, it's no surprise...

As a lot of you would remember, I used to do a lot of scubadiving, and am still a qualified Divemaster, and this absolutely horrifies and disgusts me.
