Re: The Daily Post Election Politics Thread
Interesting that many local Tories are blaming Truss and Johnson for them getting the boot. Remind me who elected those two to lead their Party?

Another BoE base rate rise.
The head of Leeds Building Society says it's the equivalent of a 16% mortgage rate when you compare the loan to value ratio. When the mortgage rate was 15% the average house price was £20,000 which was 2.3 times the average salary.
The average house price now is £290k which is about 9 times the average wage.

And the average deposit put down is £62,000. That's more than we paid for our french house last year. It's ludicrous.Kwacky wrote: ↑11 May 2023, 20:00 Another BoE base rate rise.

Re: The Daily Post Election Politics Thread
If that does happen at what point does someone in the government actually say that the current Tory party is not fit to lead the country?

They'll be a vote of no confidence if they try to get rid of Sunak.

Re: The Daily Post Election Politics Thread
Happy days. Inflation down but not by much and not as much as predicted.
Food inflation is running at about 19%
Mortgage rates are expected to go up again.
Gas prices are expected to be reduced but not by much and no changes to standing charges.
This is pure capitalism, nothing more.

Re: The Daily Post Election Politics Thread
For years food has got cheaper and cheaper but always at the expense of the farmer and not the supermarkets. I think many farmers have reached a point where there is nothing to cut anymore so supermarkets either have to pass the increase in or import from elesewhere.
Brexit now means the UK comes close to the back of the queue when EU farmers sell their produce and add in that Spain, where much if it comes from is experiencing serious drought.

Re: The Daily Post Election Politics Thread
I not saying we're not being screwed, we definitely are being screwed, but food production has always been subsidised. We've never really paid for its full cost of production.
