Re: Just one bike
I've got a day booked on the 24th at DMC to take a couple of bikes out for a test ride,
I made a silly offer on a new bike, tongue in cheek, £2,500 below the asking price. The salesman looked at me, smiled and said, go on then, only because I know you.
When I told him I've not ridden one he offered me the keys and said "take it home now, if you don't like it, bring it back". Now that's a proper sales technique.
I managed to resist. I want to keep my options open.

Re: Just one bike
I spoke with the dealer on Saturday about a trade in.
I was shocked at how little the Versys is worth. It's depreciated by over £3000 in 10 months. I know I've put some miles on it but I was really shocked at how little it's worth. I may as well keep it until it falls apart.

Re: Just one bike
That is a lot - how many miles now? I'm surprised it's not kept some more of it's value as it's the type of bike that does bigger miles.Kwacky wrote:I spoke with the dealer on Saturday about a trade in.

Re: Just one bike
11,000 miles on the clock
But still, the Z1000SX had 30,000 on it when I sold it and I got a decent price on that. It was only in their show room for a few days.

That not that many miles really these days - they might have been taking the piss on a trade in value imo.Kwacky wrote:11,000 miles on the clock

Re: Just one bike
I think they were. They've got a few Versys in stock so I'm guessing they didn't want another sat there gathering dust.
I'll wait for the street to be sold then I'll make a decision. I can keep the Versys or I can shop around.
Another option is to go for a nearly new bike with some decent bling on it. I suspect there will be more nearly new bikes for sale in a couple of months time.
I'm in no rush. I need to buy a house first:)

Re: Just one bike
The KTM 1090 Adventure was the one I made a silly offer on.
S1000XR is on the list to try.
If Triumph were still in the area I would have tried the Tigers. The closest dealer now is in Stratford and I've heard a few bad things.
Likewise with Ducati, there's no where close.

Re: Just one bike
From what i've seen the s1000xr is a great bike however someone i know had just traded his in for a GS1200 and is raving about it
Also went to a BMW Manchester last Thursday. A mate was picking up a new bike and i just tagged along there were 3 of us in there show room drinking free coffee and talking shite for about 3 hrs. Never once asked any questions why we were there. I can not think of another dealers were i would have been able to do that with out being made to feel a bit uncomfortable. impressed with the level of customer service at BMW.

Re: Just one bike
R1200RS is also on the radar.
It's funny how feedback differs. When I was at DMC In Brum on Saturday I was talking to a rider from the local IAM group. He said a load of former BMW GS owners have moved over to KTM because the build quality has switched. The old GS models were bullet proof but there have been a few issues with the latest models. The new KTMs are supposed to be solid.
