I'm sure at least one of you has replaced your home windows and doors.... I'm keen to know who you used, if you were happy and would you use them again?

I've received quotes from SafestyleUK and Anglian to the tune of 13-17k.... I want to make sure I make a good decision.

I was talking to our neighbour over the road, sure specialises in eco stuff for work.

She reckons if you have existing double glazing it can usually be made more efficient for very little.

There is a company called "window doctor" that she recommended. Apparently worked on a house in the village and fixed all their windows and doors for about £300. Failing that if the frames are good you can just replace the glazing units, something my parents did recently.

If you have a national plastics nearby they will make windows to fit far cheaper. They would likely have fitters they recommend to fit them too.

Bearing in mind that you built your own Mancave & rear garden etc,,Bearing that in mind, fitting windows is dead easy.
As D6Nutz points out, UPVC windows themselves are rarely degraded enough to make replacing them necessary.
When I built my house I got quotes from the big-boys as you have. Pushy salesmen, silly prices & "if you sign now" discounts.
Every city has dozens of manufacturers who buy in lengths of profile & make it to suit their market.
If you are going to do a through job of getting the best windows, research the different profiles & decide which manufacturer makes the profile you think is the best for you (e,g. Vekra, Linear, Otima etc) then approach them for their suggestion of a local supplier. They (should) suggest the companies that will provide the best example of their product. Approach their suggested suppliers for a quote.
That is the approach I took, cost infinitely less & no pushy salesmen, just honest manufacturers keen to prove their worth to their major supplier.

I would stick to a local company with a good reputation. We had the whole house done (4 bed), windows and doors for £13k and their product and workmanship was excellent.

I going to disagree on the replacing glass units only as if( as in our case) the seals are going, then replacing the glass will have zero effect. Also modern glass units are much deeper and so much more efficient at keeping the heat in and the security of modern windows is much better. But much depends on the standard of your current windows. They do however degrade over time.
