Re: Work
It's taken a few weeks, but we've finally reached a deal that we're all happy with, plus I get to take the whole summer off. (all three days)

Re: Work
Second interview next week.
Talked to a ex refinery mate who works for them this morning.
He got rung asked about me after yesterdays interview. He said they were frothing over my Aircraft/Denfence background on top of my Hydrocarbon Ops experience.
The company is consulting for Defence on upgrading all their fuel installations across all 3 services. They’ve been running their own rules but now Govt. want them to industry standard. So the consultation is from engineering and plant design through to training, HAZOPs, MOC and procedure design.
They’ve already got me in mind for RAAF Aviation Fuel Ops.
So do I wanna kick back in a cushy Ops job 15mins from home or become a desk jockey, still get a bit of travel, be involved with Aviation/Defence again and earn 50% more and WFH the majority of the time.

Re: Work
Well to be fair, neither opportunity is a solid option yet and could both fall on their ar$e, but I’m less and less worried about being re-employed these days.Kwacky wrote:What a nice dilemma to have!kiwikrasher wrote: So do I wanna kick back in a cushy Ops job 15mins from home or become a desk jockey, still get a bit of travel, be involved with Aviation/Defence again and earn 50% more and WFH the majority of the time.

Re: Work
That is exactly it St Marks. The job would only be realised if they are successful in becoming the single point provider on the contract renewal. Currently a number of companies share the work, although this company holds the majority.StMarks wrote:Sounds almost tailor made Kiwi, only their contract security to give you cause for concern?
But if they are successful it would be 5 yrs before the contract is re-tendered. So I’d be happy with that level of security.

Re: Work
Had the second interview with the consulting firm.
When discussing my expected renumeration I was a tad cheeky and went $15K higher than I know they offered someone else a week ago.
Before we finished the zoom, they informed me they wanted me onboard and would be sending me a contingent contract (subject to their being awarded the tender) and salary offer within the next two weeks.

Re: Work
Still not a done deal, federal election due before the tender award date so anything could change with defence tenders etc.
On a personal point, I’m quietly sh*tting myself about the thought of taking on the role. It a big leap from anything I’ve done previously. I know I have the collection of skills and experience to pull it off, but still a bit nerve wracking.
I think that’s why I keep pulling back to the possibility of the Ops job with Sydney Water. It would be safe and comfortable and see me through to retirement. Plus those roles rarely come up.
Meanwhile the consultancy job would be more exciting, force me to develop new skills and experience, and have a wide variety to my work.
The money side is barely factoring in tbh. I’ve spent nearly a decade doing a job that I’ve progressively got less and less happy with because of the pay packet.

Re: Work
Ok… update.
They’ve just emailed me the contract and offer already. Not even 24 hrs after the interview.
They upped what I asked for by another $10K. I know I said it wasn’t about the money but this does help tip me in their favour with all the other positives.
I’m going to have to buy office clothes for the first time in my life aren’t I

Go for it, kiwi.
At least you wont spend half your life travelling to and from work and sitting in quarantine with shit food.
Big changes in life are always a but scary but usually it works out for the best.

Re: Work
Just had a kick in the teeth by way of a payrise. It falls some way short of even being a token gesture.

Re: Work
It's about £3/month.
How have you not had pay rises? You work your bollocks off. How are you still there?

Re: Work
£3 pcm is taking the piss. They may as well have not bothered.
My work take the piss. It's a long standing issue. It washes over me most of the time. There's a lot of extra stuff I used to do but have stopped. I don't do any client work or promotion for the firm, I don't attend events or give talks any more or do blogs and updates on changes in the law.

Re: Work
That's how I feel about it. Colleagues have had significantly larger pay rises but also, the union are still arguing with the company over pay rises so I'm surprised they've issued the pay rise for others while that's going on.
Anyway, I've told my Manager I'm not accepting it so leaving it with him. I told him what I got and he agreed that wasn't acceptable.

That's stupid....why would anyone even bother suggesting an amount like that? 'Tards.Cav wrote:It's about £3/month.

Re: Work
That's a joke mate, arguably even an inflationary rise is a pay cut these days.

There is also the NIC increase to consider next month too.Monty wrote:That's a joke mate, arguably even an inflationary rise is a pay cut these days.
