Obviously your call Jon but a suggestion which may help is looking at a national dealers gives you more options and bikes look expensive near you.

You could get it delivered for less that 100 quid and might even be able to haggle free deliver into any purchase deal.

I appreciate what your saying mate, and yes things are more expensive round here. Joys of living down south. I need to find something this week ideally as I have the time to look, and in just not trusting enough to buy blind off the internet as I won't have the time to mess about trying to get any issues sorted.

The vfr800 is a good choice for a solid reliable work horse which should still put a smile on your face every morning

Left field choice but something I think I would be very interested in considering your budget and needs, Panniers, punchy 800 parallel twin, maintenance free belt drive, FSH with 11 stamps and every MOT cert present, younger than others, looks in great condition with good tyres and low miles

Fwiw I would have thought that a brighter/ more visible colour (like the silver) would be a primary asset, for a bike that is to serve as a practical hack..?

colour of the bike doesn't seem to matter. Either they see you or they don't.

The only bike I've owned where you're really noticed is the AT. Even then you have to have the fog lights on.

I'd seen the bird, wasn't sure if the riding position was a bit too sporty or not... I will check it out though.

Buy the best bike within budget for the task IMO. Personally for what Nutz what's the bike for I.e a solid work horse I wouldn't even consider the colour.

Dam, unlucky buddy. Not surprised that beemer has gone tbh. For a commute hack it was the pick of the bunch for me.

HiVis isn't worth the money IMO.

I had a conversation with a friend who commuted round the M25 in the dark most of the year. His opinion was that of they can't see 200kg of plastic and metal with lights on, topped off with 100kg of meat and goretex the a tiny bit of yellow isn't going to make any difference.

Ride like your invisible, but not in a good way.

Get some blue flashing lights fitted. They tend to get noticed

I'm not convinced by Hi-Viz at all, I got pulled out on when I wore it and still do now that I don't, some advanced training helped me to spot 'likely suspects' and give them extra caution, occasionally just weaving the bike seems to grab their attention. The KTM's orange side panels wrap around so they can be seen from the front, together with the daytime running light it's quite visible and still doesn't always get seen.
