Once the biking season actually starts this year I think it might be time to start thinking about for new gear, Had RST stuff last few years, and personally, I wont be buying again, literally every single item I have the stitching has come undone, or logos have peeled off or its worn through, I know I used to ride a lot but most of it was less than a year old before it started falling apart so I'm sorta thinking of trying out furygan gear, few stockists near me to go and try stuff on so shall see how it goes.

Also thinking of moving away from full sports leather type stuff and more touring type stuff for comfort as I'm not riding a crotch rocket anymore but we shall see

(Theres no real reason for this thread I must admit other than I fancied talking about bike gear and had noone else to talk to or anywhere else to post it )

For what its worth I've never owned gear that lasts a year without being sent back or replaced.. right up to rukka premium stuff. Always something.. a leak or zipper or stitching. I've yet to find ANY that actually last or live up to expectations.

I'm of the impression...build it into annual running costs.. And buy new year every 12 months.. lol..

*says the guys who's waiting for his rukka jacket to be returned for the 4th time in 18 months.. Sewell as flogged off the trousers I had to send back 3 times.

probably not a bad shout about new stuff every year,

I think actually told a lie, my RST Kevlar jeans have lasted very well, but that is literally it haha

RST and Furygan don't last from what I've been told. Alpinestars stuff last a couple of 3 years in my experience. Dainese I've heard good things about

Dainese is very good, have a pair of gloves that are at least 3 years old, been down the road twice and look almost new still, problem is money for Dainese gear + they are made for skinny Italians not massive fat brits, I genuinely struggle to find stuff that fits, Astars gear from what I understand has really gone downhill the last few years, I know loads of people really not impressed with it anymore

My Triumph 2 piece which I think is made by Alpinestars is 10 years old.

Thats what I mean though, I think older Astars gear is the nuts but from what I understand the newer stuff isnt made to anywhere near the same quality as the old stuff

Cmc outlet have had some Cracking deals on recently you have to be lucky with sizing but get your self down there.

Alpinestars and RST are now made by the same people.

To be honest unless you can afford made to measure stuff, the rest is all pretty similar. I still like my Dainese jackets and jeans as I think the quality is the best for off the peg stuff.

I'm looking at new Dainese kit at the moment, quality seems good to me.

It's no good people telling you they've had kit for 20 years of they're only doing 500 miles in it during the summer.

Miles means more IMO. Any kit will last if you don't use it.

Dianese works but generally wears out in patches. It is quality kit though.

No arguments with Klim so far, it's better quality than Dianese but it's expensive. That said you do get close to leathers level protection, a life time warranty and free crash replacement for 5 years. But it is expensive. Did I mention it's expensive?

True, my Triumph suit has done at least 50,000 miles, around 20 track days and still looks new.

Didn’t think it was, but I do now do around 500 miles every summer

I'm very impressed with my IXS goretex stuff but it is only 6 months old, seems like it will last though and I have had RST gear fail more quickly than that.

It’s more a case of manufacturers getting better at designing life time into kit.

Kettles are a good example, if anyone has a modern kettle that’s more than three years old I’d be amazed. They are designed to fail, so you buy a new one.

My Grandad died aged 94 with the same fridge he bought in his 30s!

40 - 42 i think. Size 52 / 54 in Dainese sizes i think.

Probably 50k on my alpinestars 2 piece and still looking good.

I was told by someone who repairs leathers that the newer astars kit is not as good as the old kit.
