what are your views, it's coming whether we like it or not as both britain and france aren't allowing any new internal combustion sales after 2040 due to air polution, apparently around 40K pa deaths are earlier in the uk because of air quality issues.

the bikes are getting better, they do have a sort of whirring sound like a jet whistle but muted and running modes for different torque outputs. of course there are no gears. range is getting better and prices are slowly coming down. cost per mile is low and there is no maintenance/servicing but you do have to buy a fresh battery every 5- 10 yrs and that could be expensive.

the reviews aren't bad - i'm only put off by the pioneer aspect, you could buy now then find the technology leaps ahead so thet you wish you had waited, that could hurt the resale value of what you bought too.

The two things putting me off at present are range and noise. Like you say, the range will improve. Having an electric bike for commuting makes perfect sense. They're much easier to look after and cheaper to maintain.

The TT e bikes give me great hope for sports bikes going electric, but hold on to the hope I’m of the age that petrol bikes will still be useable if not being produced till my riding days are done.

The one thing I want to see though is that power production is done with renewable sources and not fossil fuels, otherwise what the F is the point.

I think they'll be great...but only if people get behind them - without input the manufacturers will only give us what they THINK we want...not the bikes we need.

Short commutes & trackdays are where it'll be at....day-long sojourns into the Sierra Nevadas are a PITA already....no chance of that ever happening, the infrastructure is barebones enough as it is.

I think electric vehicles will be popular, but it's the snowball effect. At the moment we're just getting a few flakes of snow. I do see a few electric cars on my way into work.

We'll have the 600 Amp vs. 1000 Amp debate to look forward to.

And the Harley Electric-Glide...

If the world joined forces and acted together to the benefit of all then renewable electricity production would be a piece of piss...but they don't as using up fossil fuels makes individuals and Countries wealthy.

Yeah...but Duke is right - people for the main part are typically fairly resistant to change - it's in our nature, our routines, & that's reflected in nearly every facet of our lives.
Look at hybrid cars...25 or so years ago they were hi-tech hippie-machines for the tree-huggers to wrap their arms around....these days, no-one gives them a second thought.

Cellphones are another great example....25 years ago they were the size of a typewriter ("Dad....what's a "type-writ-er??")....these days they're the size of a wallet & they'll even tell you what's in the fridge. People talk into their phones even WHEN THERE'S NO-ONE ON THE OTHER END!!#!!

Vehicle manufacturers will push through electric cars. From the mutters on forums and social media, it's the older drivers who are against them

I'm certainly all for electric vehicles - although I haven't seen any with a tow bar or in estate form yet so I'm out for now!

Had an email from Audi today inviting me to put a deposit on their first all electric SUV due in early 2019. It has a solar panel glass sunroof. That alone is cool as **** !

What's it for though?? Can't be to power the motor...there's not enough area on a car roof for that.

You have been away from the UK for far too long.

Everyone will have to go electric thats for sure.

What are other countries plans for going electric? We hear about UK and France but id be buggered if we are the biggest people to pump the most greenhouse gases into our environment

Personally its down to price. Im all for it if its affordable eg similar to what we pay now, if its not then the UK will come crashing to a halt as for the many it wont be within reaching distance

Will we stop petrol completely after 2040?

What are other countries plans? UK and France cant change the world, we cant even deal with the illegals coming in through the euro tunnel
