All aftermarket exhausts work with OE tune though, right? They just aren't optimised for the standard tune.

Do you also mean that if an exhaust valve is present in the stock system it must be present in the aftermarket system?

Work, yes? Work correctly then not necessarily. Could run so lean they damage the engine. Engines are tuned to run very lean these days anyway.

As long as the design is similar enough that it can still use the OE tune and offer some kind of improvement, then all is ok.

But a tune for twin high level cans with longer distance to travel to the outlets is not going to be optimal for a 3 into1 lowboy system.

Also the lowboy removes the Cat as it is a straight through system, which is not allowed for use on road. Only in racing. Harley were fined as they could not prove all their tuners were for use in racing environment only. It is almost impossible to prove that (as most probably won't be) so the only way you can ensure that you are producing legal systems is to no longer offer off road only items. The manufacturer then has no grey area to explain.

EU systems must also have their baffles welded in place. USA are not so concerned about noise and the baffles in their systems are removable.

Precisely why I fitted an Akrapovic can with an exhaust valve and knocked out the Cats but left the mid baffle box in. Looks like a totally standard performance edition from the outside. I am going to replace the mid box with a Pine Box though at some point, probably just before it goes on the Dyno.

That's probably the best solution, Monty. Certainly a little more restrained than my cat-less Racefit Growler system.

Hand-on-heart I could not hear a difference when the exhaust dropped out of the header leaving me running straight headers. There's just a little more rasp and it revved marginally higher down the straight

£11,350 for the S

£13,250 for the RS.

Not too badly priced IMO. Probably £1,000 over but I doubt dealers will stick to the RRP for long.

The S is a good deal, not so sure the RS is. Not enough of a jump from the 765 for me to warrant the cost.. Nice bikes though.

I think they represent pretty good value. Even some of the 800 Tigers are over £12k now I believe.

I like what the 765 stands for but surely the speed is going to be noticeably easier to ride quicker and for longer? They only quote peak figures but I imagine the area under the graph will be significantly larger

It probably is, but not for £3 or £4k. 765 is lighter and power to weight wont be too far away imo. Plus i dont like the underseat exhausts tbh.

Good write up about this bike in the latest PB. They seem to like it. It certainly seems to be very impressive on the track for a road bike.

End of the day, the Speed Triple is an iconic bike in ways the 765 can only dream about....that's not knocking the 765 in any way, just the Speed has always been more than the sum of it's parts.

How does that compare with its competition? Price and spec wise.

No idea. There's a match up with the MT-10 but nothing else.

I expect we'll see the new Speed go up against the MT-10, Prila and Superduke over the next couple of months in all of the usual magazines.

Price wise the Speed Triple looks good value compared to the rest.

What we really need though is a V4 Streetfighter. Make it happen Ducati.

Their last streetfighter looked really good. I'm surprised it didn't sell very well.
