Looking into potentially purchasing one of these. I know Duke has the bumpstop one but has anyone else got one and got any comment or advice on them ?

@ Duke - How secure is the bike when installed ? Is it as good as the display bikes at shows, i.e. rock solid ? As good as a rear paddock standard or a bit wobbly ?

Seem to be quite a few on the market and all at varying price levels.

I havent got one but .....

When I towed back with a failing rectifier and more recently a punctured rear, both of the recovery companies used one to load the bike on to the trailer / flatbed and then secured the bike with ratchet straps .

I would use one as a stand alone stand as the bike is secure

One of the concerns on both occasions was the pivoting plate that the front wheel hits first ... it was so close to failing on the front lower fairing by the rad cover when the wheel goes passed its centre point and it flicks up behind it to secure it .... so much so that one of the recovery guys didnt want to use it ... fortunately it was fine.

However if I was to go and buy one, itd be something I'd be wary of

I don't think its quite as steady as a full on paddock stand but then it isnt likely to be as the tyre is still taking the weight. I can't see how the bike could fall over though. The Multi sits in mine and that carries weight higher than a sportsbike but is fine.

As to Spudda's point, i know that they do two sizes of front pivot plate so as to accommodate cruisers. It may well be that was what was on the truck to enable him to carry all bikes.

Have you tried the 748 on the stand as well as the multi Duke ? Any clearance issues as spudda mentioned ?

Yes i have an no clearance issues. I would guess the 748 fairing is closer to the front wheel than most too.

Give the guy a call. He is an engineer so will know of any issues i reckon.

Ignore my previous post. The 748 is already on the Bumpstop stand and it works fine with no clearance issues.

Looking at it, Blade, there is no possible way that the pivot piece can get anywhere near the fairing on the 748. I don't think a photo would show that very well but i have attached some anyway.

The front of that fairing is so much closer to the front wheel because of the horizontal front cylinder.

As Duke mentioned, it stands a good chance that the recovery companies used a stand that would take cruisers and sports bikes ... but the front pivot was close

Cheers Duke. I watched some YouTube video and as you say it seems impossible to clash.

Is that the thatcham model you can chain too that you have ?

What made you pick the bumpstop over other products as its much more expensive ?

Is the 748 in there unsupported by anything else ?

748 is on a rear stand as well but doesn't need it. There is no way the bike can fall over.

Yes mine is the Thatcham one and i chose it because it looks very hard to break the chain when threaded through the metal tube especially if the chain is relativity short and doesn't lie on the floor. It was a little more money but its designed and built in the UK and is purpose built for the job and is more substantial than the others i looked at.

I think the Bumpstop is a good product but they won't offer any discount unfortunately . The Bumpstop comes out at £180 delivered where as the Acebikes Steadystand which gets great reviews and is a very similar product in terms of quality comes out at £80 and i just can't find £100 of value difference between the two.

I'm going to have to have a long hard think about this one

shame the Manc Bike Show has come and gone ... you could probably picked one up from there

I only use mine for transporting the trackbike in the back of the van, does a great job though !!

Looked at the Acebikes just online. The difference is that has no provision for a security chain but the Bumpstop Thatcham does.

If you want just a stand i would say go for the Acebikes but if you want security as well then go for the Bumpstop.
