Ahh, I missed that bit. Having not ridden a 1299, my preconception of the suspension is that it is already miles better than my ZX6R stock stuff thus good enough to not get the top notch stuff for now.

I'd like to say I agree with you but having no experience of race suspension makes it impossible for me to do so

Race suspension is probably the wrong description it's better described as goods quality suspension that removes manufacturer limitations and short comings.

For example if I get an aftermarket shock it will be for fast road riding not racing.

Do I need it ? no probably not. Will it me make me any quicker ? possibly. Will it make me enjoy my riding and ownership more yes.

Just because the panigale is seen as top draw Cav don't be fooled into thinking the suspension is any better than a zx6r. It's built to a budget and they know its likely to be junked anyway.

Each to their own but I would rather spend my money on suspension improvements than brake levers, anodized trinkets, brake guards and billet reservoir pot or exhausts. Nothing wrong with that but my personal prefernce is always to spend money on decent suspensiom first.

From my limited experience better suspension just equals less compromise. My zx6 shock is fine 80% of the time, the other 20% it's bouncing me out of the seat!

Fwiw I'm with you Blade, function over form every time.

Generally speaking, bikes are made by manufacturers with a pillion facility, that means the suspension needs to be be safe with 2 reasonable sized adults on it, the spring rate for that is way over what a single rider wants on the road, add in the cheap damping and you get suspension that can ping you out of the seat rather than absorb the bump properly.

If you buy a decent shock with good damping, fitted with a good quality spring - correct for your weight, get that set up properly, it will make a very discernible difference to 1, how a bike handles if you ride reasonably quickly, and 2, the comfort and stability of the bike at speed.

P.S. This is only my opinion gained from a little experience btw, nothing more.

Its always a compromise Monty. There is no perfect set up for all conditions. As you say it's just about reducing the amount of compromise and finding the improvememts that will give you more confidence to go quicker or have more control.

What's all the water under it on what seems to be a dry day? Do you stop and do a mid ride wash?

I completely agree with you - I've just never had the spare cash to do it

Been tinkering changed the shock linkage from progressive to flat. Hope to test tomorrow.

What difference is that supposed to make ??
