Hmmm, I don't see your argument. Over 180.000 people are injured in the UK because of cars and other vehicles. I can't see that increasing.

Electric cars won't just be silent, they'll be loaded up with sensors and automatic braking systems, as many new cars already are. Automated cars already deal with cyclists and pedestrians.

Car ownership will decrease. I can't see the numbers getting much beyond what they are at present. As the number of automated cars starts to rise people will be less inclined to but their own. You just Uber your auto to your door.

I don't mind the idea of automated cars.....

They shouldn't pull off silly random manoeuvres for no apparent reason, means they will be predictable and easy to dodge ;)

Far fewer games of dodge the d!ckhead

I was riding down the 515 the other day doing about 50ish and perfectly normally just like every other day passed a 20 ton truck by about 3 feet going in the opposite direction doing about 50.

Thats combined closing speed of 100ish mph wearing no more protection than a leather bag, and a blink of an eye away from being a squishy leather bag.

When you think about it, you'd have to say it won't be long before people are saying "I can't believe you where ever allowed to do that?"

speaking from first hand experience its fine passing 28.5T trucks at 50mph but going under them fcuking hurts like a pig.....

on the plus side the nurses that looked after me were pretty hot...... or could have been the morphine :P

They've had automated cars in LA for a while now...not many, a couple of hundred or so. Think there's only been one incident/accident...and it was human error - it always is.

"In the year 2525,,,,,,,,"

If this legislation meant anything, We've fist got to survive the Trump, Putin, Fat Boy Kim, an exponential rise in religious fundamentalism, the rise sea level & other natural disasters resultant from global warming, the collapse of antibiotic treatments etc etc etc...

Fwiw not being allowed to pollute the environment on my 675 when I'm so old they'll probably have taken my licence away anyway isn't preying on my mind just yet...

The fact that such a proportion of our society seems to believe "the government" are actually doing anything here I find far more concerning frankly.

Paris. Electric scooters, electric buses, hybrid and electric cars and electric delivery vans are either the norm or very commonplace so I have found today.

I think Tesla's appeal lies in the fact that they just look cool...regardless of what kind of powerplant they have under the hood. That, and the fact thay they offer some real performance.
With a Prius you get sommit that only the tree-hugging hippies will flock to.
Oh...and an eye-watering top speed of about 23 miles-per-fcuking-fortnight.

That, and they just look like sh!t-wrapped-in-crap.

if all the private transport in the UK switched to electric we would need approx 30 nuclear power stations just for charging them , I don't see that kind of investment happening

Private transport won't exist in the same way though. We won't need to own our own cars anymore.

And that's based on current technology.

I don't see people changing their ways until they have to....and then you'll have to fend off the rush of "me too"s as everyone gets in on the act, and no-one wants to be Johnny-come-lately.

Other countries are already changing their ways.
