I've swapped the rear shock over for the standard one. Bit of a learning curve but it seems to have gone ok.

She'll hit 30,000 miles next week.

I've given the bike a good clean and inspection. There's some bits of corrosion at welding joints. The paint has gone. Given where these places are I'm presuming that the dirt and grit has effectively sand blasted it off. I've put some ACF corrosion block grease on it for now. This stuff not only acts as a barrier but it neutralises the corrosion process. It's thicker than ACF50 so it stays on for longer. I'll give it a few weeks then I'll degrease it, clean it out and paint it with hammerite.

:? Woudn't you be better advised to clean it & Hammerite it now, whilst the weather is warmer and drier.?

I want the ACF to neutralise the corrosion first.

And it's going to rain on Monday

And I had already spent 2 hours on the bike ;)

I've already got some thanks. I will get round to it, but when I've got time. Yesterday I didn't have the time nor the inclination. The grease is nothing more than a stop gap, it was never intended to be a permanent solution.

Nice work.. already more miles than my 09 (y)

I'm so close to tipping 30k, I think I would have done it if my radiator didn't blow.

How are you getting on with it still? Happy with your choice? Would choose same again?

It's a great little bike. It's certainly done much better than I expected. It's basic, it just gets on with it. The change of rear shock made a difference, the handling is more confident. The build quality overall is pretty good. The bike is built to a budget but it's still looking good unless you start poking about. The paint on the fairings and tank still looks new.

I keep thinking it's time to change it but I can't think what I would replace it with. I might replace the rubber brake lines with steel ones but that's about all it needs.

I would get another.

32k

I've not been using it much recently as I've been working from home or using the car when it's been cold.

Looks good, especially with some of the weather it's been through.

Shows that if you do put the effort in you can keep a commuter looking good. Eh D6 ;)

What's the plan?

Run her into the ground or px??

I see the 850GS is on offer at £75 a month on a PCP with £750 dealer depoist contribution.

I think I'm more interested in the 900xr.

If I'm working more from home then I can drop down to two bikes. I could p/ex the Honda and private sell the Versys. It's worth nothing to a dealer

I'll see in the spring. There's the Tiger 900 as well.
