Porsches

Chatting to Rocket yesterday i mentioned i have a hankering for a Porsche Boxster and disappear off to Italy with the wife for a month and do some touring.

It wont be happening for a few years but i have already been trying to glean as much information as possible so i know what to look for and what to avoid. There are a lot of used examples out there.

Whilst looking around last night though i came across this website which advertises a lot on Pistonheads.

Whilst i accept that these may be commission sales, i wonder what sort of commission is earned on selling a 918 Hybrid? this site has three listed for sale. they are ususally selling for over £1 million and the Weissach version there is probably closer to £1.5 million.

I do think it ranks as one of the most stunning cars ever built.

By carefully Duke. Porsche are not as reliable as people first think especially the earlier 996/997 911's and Boxsters up to about 2010.

Problems with Intermediate shaft failures, main seals going, bore scoring to name just the most common faults.

This is a very good Indy with great info. Read the Buyers guide and Engine guide

Yes i have become aware they have their issues. I think personally i would prefer to go for a 987 Boxster.

Seems they are more reliable if not quite as pure as the original plus they have their creature comforts.

I'll look at the website, Blade cheers for the link. there is also a decent independent near Halesown and Perkles might be the man to ask about them.

Nothing will happen to Alex has left Uni but i like to have ideas and plans for these things. We have had a few friends recently diagnosed with potentially terminal illness ( one of which has gone that way) and we realise we no longer have years and years to do all the things we would like, so no point putting them off if opportunities arise.

987 is a nice car Duke.

As a suggestion why not hire one for a long weekend in the Italian lakes.

That car is NICE!!!!!--

I think a P. is an 'everyday exotic'....you could drive one to Sainsburys and no-one will bat an eye......pull up in a Ferrari to pick up some bread and you'll look like a total douche.
Seating position is a bit weird at first...Tiptronic 'box is alright...seats are great....interiors are a bit gloomy.

918 is probably one of my dream cars tbh. Too expensive mind!

The only thing i'd say about the 987 is get a decent S model if you can - they have a lot more shove.

The tiptronic is rubbish compared to the PDK/DSG, or indeed get a manual.

I test drove a few different Boxsters before buying the F-Type.

You know my attitude to all this - go for it :)

I bought a book to gen up on them last week and am reading through it slowly and taking it all in.

Were the PDK boxes only fitted from 981 models?

I tested the 987 and the 981 and the 981 was definitely better - especially inside. The 981 felt slightly better but not much in it.
